The Israeli Consensus on Annexation Can Break the Peace Deadlock

by Gregg Roman, The Hill May 9, 2020

The West Bank territories Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (left) has pledged to annex are among those the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin (right) pledged never to give up.

One month before he was murdered, Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin spoke in the Knesset on how he saw the future of the land east of the “Green Line,” the Armistice Line between Israel and Jordan, created in 1949. He spoke about the conditions that, to his mind, were essential elements and prerequisites for any Israeli future.

“First and foremost, united Jerusalem, which will include both Ma’ale Adumim and Givat Ze’ev — as the capital of Israel, under Israeli sovereignty. … The security border of the State of Israel will be located in the Jordan Valley, in the broadest meaning of that term … changes which will include the addition of Gush Etzion, Efrat, Beitar and other communities, most of which are in the area east of what was the Green Line, prior to the Six Day War,” Rabin declared in October 1995.

Dave Rubin interview: His new book, censorship on the left and what he sees happening in Canada

National Post columnist Jonathan Kay interviews American author Dave Rubin about his new book, censorship on the left and why Canadians are listening to what he has to say

By Jonathan Kay, NATIONAL POST

The National Post’s Jonathan Kay recently interviewed American author Dave Rubin, whose tour for his new book, “Don’t Burn This Book: Thinking for Yourself in the Age of Unreason,” was disrupted by the ongoing pandemic, and is now being done out of Rubin’s garage.

Jonathan Kay: Nice suit. Look what I’m wearing. Thanks for making the rest of us look like crap.

Dave Rubin: I thought I’d keep it professional, you know? I’m on a book tour.

Kay: What’s it been like doing a book tour without actually touring?

Rubin: I got to tell you, it’s really bizarre, actually. The book came out on Tuesday, April 28, and I was supposed to be in New York the week before, doing all kinds of press, going on every TV show you can imagine and meeting with the publishers and all that good stuff. And then I was supposed to be on a book tour starting that night. We were gonna be at the Gramercy Theater in New York. And then I think I was going to be in D.C. and then across the country for the next month and a half or so. And instead, I’m in my garage. I mean, this is my garage. I happened to have a studio in my garage. So it’s kind of funny. We’re seeing all these CNN anchors in their kitchens, in their living rooms and things. I was a little ahead on the home studio thing.

CROOKED OBAMA PANICS!

Deep State Reporter Isikoff Releases His “Leaked” Call – Former President’s Fingerprints All Over Attempted Coup and More Documents Are Coming!

By Joe Hoft, GATEWAY PUNDIT . May 9, 2020<
>

Disgraced former President Barack Obama appears to be in a panic.  General Flynn is now in the clear and the Durham investigation is ongoing. More documents are about to drop.
There are rumblings that former members of his FBI (e.g. FBI General Counsel James Baker) have flipped and are working with Durham.

Obama’s Deep State henchmen who set up General Flynn and the crooked politicians and media hacks who supported them are terrified.
An audio of former President Barack Obama, whose Administration spied on the Trump team and Administration, was released by deep state reporter Michael Isikoff at Yahoo News on Friday night.

INTO THE FRAY: Judicial overreach- Are the chickens coming home to roost?

There is a growing sense that the aura of infallibility accorded the Supreme Court, that forms the basis of its almost limitless power, so assiduously (some might say insidiously) cultivated by Chief Justice Aharon Barak, is beginning to dim

By Martin Sherman, IISS

In Israel, the negative impact of the judicialization of politics on the Supreme Court’s legitimacy is already beginning to show its mark. Over the past decade, the public image of the Supreme Court as an autonomous and impartial arbiter has been increasingly eroded… as political arrangements and public policies agreed upon in majoritarian decision-making arenas are likely to be reviewed by an often hostile Supreme Court. As a result, the court and its judges are increasingly viewed by a considerable portion of the Israeli public as pushing forward their own political agenda...– Prof. Ran Hirschl, Towards Juristocracy, Harvard University Press, 2004.

I admit that I have used this citation from Hirschl’s book to introduce several previous articles on Israel’s legal establishment. However, I have little qualms in reusing it here—a s it has lost of none of its past pertinence. If anything, quite the opposite is true.

Testing the limits of judicial overreach?

Blinded by Doomsday Predictions Masquerading as Science

By Andrew Gilbertson, AMERICAN THINKER

Conservatives?  Anti-science?  No way!  Science created fuel-burning engines, harnessed electricity, and ushered in an industrial revolution that transformed the world.  Science found cures for malaria, tuberculosis, and polio; expanded the world’s food supply many times over; significantly lengthened life expectancy; and put men on the moon.  And then, just when it seemed nothing more was even possible, science — specifically computer technology — transformed the world yet again.  Cyber-wonders emerge on an almost daily basis, enhancing our lives in ways we could only have imagined a generation ago.

No, folks, we have no quarrel with science.  But we have a serious problem with something masquerading as science: the manipulation of facts and data to create fearful predictive models.  These “scientific” statistical models often tend to cast the freedom we enjoy in a negative light, and they almost always end up being wrong.  Let us amble down the Memory Lane of five decades and revisit some of the terrifying events the learned practitioners of this branch of science once assured us would occur.  No doubt, you will recall many of them:

Daniel Pipes’ Op-Ed Opposing Israeli Sovereignty in Judea Samaria Filled with Absurd Falsehoods

Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) President Morton A. Klein and ZOA Chair Mark Levenson, Esq. released the following statement:

Daniel Pipes’ fallacy-filled New York Times op-ed opposing Israeli legally valid sovereignty over Judea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley sounds like it came from the hostile-to-Israel far left. Instead, it came from Pipes, a well-known relentless “never-Trumper.”

For starters, Pipes’ op-ed uses the leftwing misnomer “annexation” – which implies that Israel is taking lands to which she has no right. The accurate description is: “Israel’s exercise of her sovereignty over historic Jewish lands to which Israel is entitled under binding international law,” or “extending Israeli law to Judea and Samaria,” or “exercising her sovereignty.” International agreements, including the British Mandate and San Remo resolution, guaranteed the Jewish people’s rights to resettle and reconstitute the Jewish state on these lands.

Pipes also wrongly writes that “annexation” was a “fringe” idea prior to publication of President Trump’s “Peace to Prosperity” plan in January 2020. In fact, polls show that the overwhelming majority of Israelis have favored exercising sovereignty over Judea and Samaria and the Jordan Valley, since well before the Trump peace plan was announced. In January 2017, the Maagar Mochot Interdisciplinary Research Institute poll found that Israelis opposed a Palestinian-Arab state and favored Israeli sovereignty by 10 to 1. Prominent mainstream journalists have been writing about the advantages and inevitability of Israel exercising her sovereignty for years.

The ‘legal’ landmine on the road to sovereignty

The incoming government must instruct the State Prosecution and the IDF Military Advocate Unit to properly represent Israel’s longstanding position: As the holder of sovereign rights to Judea and Samaria in accordance with international law. A lawyer in an official position who presents otherwise does not represent the State of Israel.

By Caroline B. Glick, ISRAEL HAYOM

There is a landmine on the road to Israeli sovereignty over parts of Judea and Samaria. It must be defused before it blows up Israel’s efforts to secure its national interests and takes President Donald Trump’s peace plan, and US-Israel relations along with it.

The landmine is not an actual explosive charge but the clique of unelected lawyers at the top of Israel’s legal system. Members of the clique have arrogated the power of the government to themselves to advance their radical, legally unsupported political views about Judea and Samaria.

Since 1967, the State of Israel has carefully left its position on the legal status of Judea and Samaria ambiguous to avoid unnecessary confrontations. At the same time, Israel has assiduously refused to make any concessions about its actual sovereign rights to the areas.

Sen. Pat Toomey Calls for Reopening America Faster: ‘Danger’ of Coronavirus to Most Americans Overstated

Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) told Breitbart News in an exclusive interview on Friday that American political leaders are “overstating the danger” of coronavirus to most Americans while “underestimating” the economic “carnage” that lockdowns nationwide are causing.

Toomey, a key U.S. senator from a Rust Belt battleground state, conducted this interview with Breitbart News after rolling out a plan to much more quickly reopen Pennsylvania than the plan the state’s Democrat Gov. Tom Wolf has begun. Toomey, a widely respected Republican who serves alongside a Democrat, Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA), is not known for making outlandish claims so his statements here that the panic driving policy decisions around the country instead of science—which shows the disease is much less severe than originally thought—are a huge step for the country as the conventional wisdom behind the lockdowns nationwide is challenged ever so more. He is the first U.S. senator to offer such criticism of the conventional wisdom that keeps much of the country—and much of Pennsylvania—in a state of perpetual pseudo-lockdown limbo. Toomey in recent days hosted a roundtable with medical and economic experts presenting for U.S. senators actual data about the virus, bringing together top medical and scientific officials from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC)—Pennsylvania’s largest hospital system—and Stanford University, Duke University, and New York University.

Germany’s Course Could Signal End Of Clamor Over Climate Change

By CONRAD BLACK, Special to the Sun | May 8, 2020

The coronavirus has had, at least, the unanticipated benefit of obscuring and diminishing the tedious public clamoring about climate change. It is a slightly redeeming virtue of crises that they tend to supersede and diminish previous crises; if a crisis is serious, public opinion can rarely worry about more than one menace at a time.

When Iran took over the role of principal promoter of terrorism in the Middle East, and Turkey, rebuffed by Europe, began imposing itself on the fringes of the Arab world, support for the Palestinian onslaught against Israel effectively collapsed. All the nonsense about Israel as an “apartheid state” has almost stopped, and the simpering of naïve or devious advocates of one big happy, multiracial Palestine (a formula for the subjugation or expulsion or even massacre of the Jews one more time) is rarely heard.

The Palestinian leadership never wanted peace, only brief cease-fires in exchange for the return of territory the Arab powers had lost in unsuccessful wars they had initiated with Israel. If there had been peace, Yasser Arafat and Mahmoud Abbas would be the despots of just another dusty little Arab country instead of world celebrities. They apparently believed that the support of the principal Arab powers was based on genuine sympathy and solidarity.

Flynn Was Innocent All Along: He Was Pressured to Plead Guilty

by Alan M. Dershowitz, GATESTONE INSTITUTE

  • From a legal and policy point of view, encouraging the FBI to misuse its legitimate authority to investigate past crimes, solely to create future crimes is both immoral and illegal.
  • Let us hear now from the former civil libertarians for whom any violation of law is permissible, as long as it is directed at a Trump associate.
  • Anyone who knows how the system works in practice would understand why an innocent man—or a defendant in a close case—might be coerced into pleading guilty…. in this case, it is alleged that the government threatened, if Flynn did not plead guilty, to indict his son.
  • There must be a single standard of justice and civil liberties — including the presumption of innocence — that transcends partisan politics. This message has been forgotten by both parties.

The Justice Department has agreed that General Michael Flynn did not, in fact, commit any crime. Let us hear now from the former civil libertarians for whom any violation of law is permissible, as long as it is directed at a Trump associate. Why Netanyahu Will Never Annex West Bank Settlements and the Jordan Valley. Really?

Netanyahu has worked for decades to achieve the current status quo whereby the Palestinian issue has all but disappeared from the global agenda. Why jeopardize that by pursuing actual annexation?

By Anshel Pfeffer, HAARETZ

Netanyahu at the settlement of Mevo'ot Yeriho in the Jordan Valley, February 10, 2020

Ohad Zwigenberg

After 16 months of incessant election campaigns and fruitless coalition horse-trading, Benjamin Netanyahu is finally about to swear in his fifth government.

At the same time, Israel seems to have gotten past the first major wave of coronavirus infections and sickness, and is now emerging from the shutdown of nearly two months. So now that politics and public health are no longer top of the agenda, we can finally get back to the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Not that anything new has been happening in the conflict for a while now. No new diplomacy, no major violence; just the ongoing stagnation of military occupation, which in a month will be marking its 53rd anniversary. But there may be an exciting new development in store.

AP — The US is pulling two Patriot missile batteries and some fighter aircraft out of Saudi Arabia, an American official said Thursday, amid tensions between the kingdom and the Trump administration over oil production.

The official said the decision removes two batteries that were guarding oil facilities in Saudi Arabia but leaves two Patriot batteries at Prince Sultan Air Base in the Saudi desert, along with other air defense systems and jet fighters.

The decision scales back the American presence in Saudi Arabia just months after the Pentagon began a military buildup there to counter threats from Iran. About 300 troops that staff the two batteries would also leave Saudi Arabia, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive military operations.

Woodstock Occurred in the Middle of a Pandemic

H. Laitin. This shut down discourages exercise and encourages poor nutrition and neglect of underlying medical conditions whereas the proper message is to encourage healthy lifestyle [good nutrition; appropriate exercises; etc.]

In my lifetime, there was another deadly flu epidemic in the United States. The flu spread from Hong Kong to the United States, arriving December 1968 and peaking a year later. It ultimately killed 100,000 people in the U.S., mostly over the age of 65, and one million worldwide.

Lifespan in the US in those days was 70 whereas it is 78 today. Population was 200 million as compared with 328 million today. It was also a healthier population with low obesity. If it would be possible to extrapolate the death data based on population and demographics, we might be looking at a quarter million deaths today from this virus. So in terms of lethality, it was as deadly and scary as COVID-19 if not more so, though we shall have to wait to see.

“In 1968,” says Nathaniel L. Moir in National Interest, “the H3N2 pandemic killed more individuals in the U.S. than the combined total number of American fatalities during both the Vietnam and Korean Wars.”

Mosque Loudspeaker Saga Continues

by Tarek Fatah, The Toronto Sun,

Two Muslim men prepare the minaret of Toronto’s Madinah Masjid mosque for the evening Adhan call to prayer on May 3, 2020. (Jack Boland /Toronto Sun)

Last week when I wrote about a single mosque in Toronto using four loudspeakers to declare “Allah is the Greatest” and that there is “No God, but Allah,” I thought it was the case of one mosque, a few zealots and their formerly communist councillor investing in her Muslim vote bank.

I was wrong. Within days, dozens of mosques across the country deployed loudspeakers, ostensibly to soothe the loneliness of Muslims because of the lockdown, but what critics may rightly claim could be laying the foundations to establish what are predominantly Muslim neighbourhoods, which we see in Paris, Amsterdam and cities in Britain and Germany.

The most blatant illustration of the power some voices in the Muslim community have over our municipal politicians was demonstrated in Mississauga, where Mayor Bonnie Crombie rejected the advice of her top administrators, and in a drive-by vote managed to pass a unanimous resolution amending the city noise bylaw that will legalize the blaring of loudspeakers at all Mississauga mosques.

China’s Massive Trade Imbalance: The Rope with Which They Would Hang Us

Beijing’s use of COVID-19 could help them achieve global dominance

by Lawrence Kadish, GATESTONE INSTITUTE  •  May 7, 2020

  • China’s communist leadership quickly recognized that if the U.S. continued to demand economic reciprocity, China could easily lose its ability to claim solo superpower status for the remaining decades of the 21st Century.
  • China found an “accidental” biological and economic weapon that has the potential to achieve their singular strategic goal: removing a strong and powerful international competitor, the United States.
  • As Vladimir Lenin, the father of the Soviet state, is reported mockingly to have said, “The capitalists will sell us the rope with which we will hang them.” China’s leaders have long believed that America’s unsustainable trade imbalance with China is that rope. Add the global pandemic crisis introduced by China and Beijing sees victory without an artillery shell being fired.
  • Like blinders falling from the eyes of those who have long avoided the truth, this new clarity will create a united, engaged, and resolute international community prepared to confront Beijing’s agenda of global dominance.

** The fraudulent model predicted 2.2 million American deaths from the coronavirus pandemic

** The authors of the Imperial College Model shared their findings with the White House Coronavirus task force in early March

** Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx then met with President Trump privately and urged him to shut down the US economy and destroy the record Trump economy

** A new critique of the Imperial College Model finds the study is “completely unusable for scientific purposes” — The study is a sham

Report: Suicide Rise from Lockdowns to Kill More than Coronavirus in Australia

BY THOMAS D. WILLIAMS, PH.D.  BREITBART

The rise in the suicide rate caused by lockdowns in Australia is predicted to exceed deaths from the Wuhan coronavirus by a factor of ten, the Australian reported Thursday.

Researchers from Sydney University’s Brain and Mind Centre forecast a 50 percent rise in the national suicide rate because of the economic and social impact of government responses to the virus, which would drive deaths to as much as ten times higher than those causes by the coronavirus itself.

Already this year global deaths by suicide are significantly higher than those attributed to the coronavirus. According to the respected Worldometers running tallies, there have already been 374,225 suicides since the start of 2020, whereas the Wuhan coronavirus has claimed 251,898 lives, Johns Hopkins University reveals.

Likud is terribly divided on annexation. And it is hailed as a rightwing party.

T. Belman.  Keep in mind that the organizers of the poll are know to be left wingers. Based on the answers, it is obviousl to me that most of those questioned, don’t understand the deal.

The survey found that a quarter of the respondents (26%) support a potential annexation of the West Bank, while a plurality (40%) support a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

A majority of the Jewish population of Israel does not support the annexation of the West Bank, according to a new poll released by the organization Commanders for Israel’s Security Wednesday, which was first reported by Ynet.

The poll, conducted by the organization Commanders for Israel’s Security, a movement that consists of ex-senior security officials (IDF, Mossad, Shin Bet and Israel Police) who oppose the extension of Israeli sovereignty into the West Bank, utilized a sample of 1,000 people from solely the Jewish population of Israel.

The survey found that a quarter of the respondents (26%) support a potential annexation of the West Bank, while a plurality (40%) support a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and 22% favor a unilateral disengagement from the Palestinians. Only 13% of Jewish Israelis are satisfied with the current situation.

Israel demands major changes in UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon

“We are not calling to shut down the mission tomorrow morning but we want them to become more efficient,” Israeli ambassador to the UN says of United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. UNIFIL includes more than 9,400 ground troops and over 850 naval personnel in a Maritime Task Force. Its budget from July 2018-June 2019 was $474 million.

Israel’s UN ambassador said Wednesday that his government is demanding major changes in the way the UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon operates on the ground and has support from the United States.

Ambassador Danny Danon told a video press briefing that Israel will insist that peacekeepers have access to all sites, that they have freedom of movement and that any time they are being blocked the UN Security Council must be immediately informed.

The peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, was originally created to oversee the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon in 1978. The mission was expanded after a 2006 war between Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorist group so that peacekeepers could deploy along the Lebanon-Israel border to help Lebanese troops extend their authority into their country’s south for the first time in decades.
