Yisrael Beytanu hopes to convince a million US Jews to make aliyah

T. Belman. I intend to set up a think tank very soon and one of the ideas it will be studying is this one.

The key to his plan is to sponsor Jewish education abroad, with an emphasis on Hebrew lessons, because learning Hebrew would strengthen their connection to Israel.

BY LAHAV HARKOV, JPOST

The government needs to push for more Jews to immigrate to Israel from the US and other Western countries, by funding Jewish education and Hebrew lessons in their communities, Yisrael Beytenu MK Oded Forrer said on Tuesday.

Forrer, number two on Yisrael Beytenu’s list and a former director-general of the Immigration Absorption Ministry, described his plan, which comes in conjunction with the party’s focus on aliyah, in light of its voter base of Israelis from the former Soviet Union.

“The Israeli government has to set a goal for there to be 10 million Jews in Israel in the next 10-15 years – and to reach it, we need massive aliyah from Western countries… We need to bring the number of olim up from 30,000 a year to 60,000-70,000, or even 100,000,” Forrer told The Jerusalem Post. “For once, we have to work to encourage aliyah from those countries, through Jewish education.”

Handing Gaza to Abbas Will Solve Nothing

T. Belman. Also Bibi said recently that he hoped to give it to another Arab country but no one wanted it. Thus my suggestion in Memo to Kushner is the only game in town and I am hoping it will be embraced by the powers that be.

By Maj. Gen. (res.) Gershon Hacohen

BESA Center Perspectives Paper No. 1,132, April 4, 2019

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Overthrowing Hamas and handing rule in Gaza to Mahmoud Abbas will not bring about a solution to the Gaza problem. It was, after all, Yasser Arafat, Abbas’s predecessor as PLO leader, who transformed Gaza into an ineradicable terrorist hotbed by flouting the Oslo Accords that he had signed. The solution to the Gaza problem does not lie in Ramallah but rather in the Strip’s historic hinterland – the Sinai Peninsula.

When a single rocket launched from Gaza into central Israel forces the Israeli PM to cancel an important slate of meetings in Washington and return post haste to Jerusalem, it is clear that the Strip has become a major strategic threat rather than a containable terror problem. Yet while public discourse on the latest conflagration revolved around the desirable IDF response to Hamas’s growing brazenness, with the customary recommendations ranging from dealing a harsh blow that would “restore lost deterrence” to a campaign to vanquish Hamas, it is worth taking a broader look at how the Gaza problem came to pass in the first place.

Gaza’s Rich Jewish History

By Victor Sharpe, AMERICAN THINKER

The four thousand year old association of Jewish life in Gaza is little remembered in today’s world. Of course people know of the biblical story of Samson being blinded by the now extinct Philistines and how he brought down the temple to their gods in Gaza. But very few have any idea of the rich Jewish history in the following millennia.

In the Second millennium BC, Gaza served as an administrative city and residence of the Egyptian governor of Canaan. The bible tells us that the Jewish patriarch, Isaac, dug wells in Gerar, an ancient site between Beer Sheba and Gaza, and in the 13th century BC the Philistines or Caphorites (Cretans) annihilated the Avite inhabitants of Gaza and made the city the largest of their five centers. After the Israelite Exodus from Egypt and entry into the Promised Land, the tribe of Judah was given Gaza as a possession but did not include it fully in their territory. The bible reports in Joshua 15.47 and Judges 1:18 how the city of Gaza, and those of Ekron, Ashkelon, Ashdod and Gat became a possession of Israel but how some of them were among those places ‘lying in the remaining country,’ i.e., not fully possessed by the Israelites.

INTO THE FRAY: Gaza – Disaster foretold

By MARTIN SHERMAN, IISS

War in Gaza

What has unfolded in Gaza should not really surprise anyone willing to face up to the inclement realities. After all, it was not only entirely foreseeable, but easily foreseen

The nightmare stories of the Likud are well known. After all, they promised Katyusha rockets from Gaza as well. For a year, Gaza has been largely under the rule of the Palestinian Authority. There has not been a single Katyusha rocket. Nor will there be any Katyushas– Yitzhak Rabin, Radio Interview, July 24, 1995.

Trump’s presidential decree on the Golan – A moral and practical imperative.

By Martin Sherman

In issuing his recent presidential decree, recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, President Donald followed the commendable policy pattern he has set…of not following the policy patterns set by his predecessors.

Recognizing reality

Much like his decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, Trump’s decision was, on the face of it, little more than recognition of longstanding realities. After all, the disputed Golan Heights have been under Israeli control for far longer than they have ever been under the control of Syria. Indeed, much more than double!

Political Technology Is Unraveling – The Limits of Targeting

By Dick Morris,WESTERN JOURNAL

In modern politics, the overwhelming emphasis in campaigns is on targeting voters through data mining. The revolution, begun by Cambridge Analytica and a network of firms that came to advise the Trump campaign, has proceeded to the point where targeting is seen as more important than messaging.

Find out who the voter is, the theory goes, and then, instead of broadcasting your message to the world, “narrowcast” your message, aiming it with precision at each individual voter. (Google assures us that the word “narrowcasting” was coined by computer scientist and public broadcasting advocate J. C. R. Licklider in 1967. But it entered political usage through the work of media guru Tony Schwartz).

Targeting uses millions of publicly — and legally — available bits of data about each of us that catalogs our consumer preferences, habits, priorities and lifestyle choices — what car we drive, where we live, our pets, what food we eat, what films we see, what we watch on television, etc.

Some Words Are More Equal Than Others

kalman yeger
New York City Councilman Kalman Yeger

Words matter. Just ask New York City Councilman Kalman Yeger. Within a few short days of tweeting the factually correct words “Palestine does not exist,” he was booted from the Immigration Committee by the city’s Council leadership. Yeger’s now widely recognized tweet may have stated the obvious, but in the world of political correctness and political maneuvering the truth is no longer obvious.

In a string of tweets last week, Yeger sparked a heated Middle East policy debate in the heart of Brooklyn. Responding to a reporter who had referenced Yeger’s use of the term “so-called Palestinians,” Yeger tweeted last Thursday, “Palestine does not exist. There, I said it again. Also, Congresswoman Omar is an anti-Semite. Said that too.”

In this latest action, more teachers were named as Defendants, and additional claims were added with supporting exhibits further demonstrating how students are influenced to view Islam favorably at the expense of Judaism and Christianity – a clear violation of the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause.

Hold Hillary Clinton Accountable for Russiagate

After the Mueller report plopped with a wet thud on the media, everyone is blaming everyone else.

By Daniel Greenfield, FPM

Image result for hillary clinton

MSNBC and CNN are blaming the fake experts they invited on and interviewed night after night, urging them to make outlandish predictions that Mueller would soon have Trump locked up for treason. Like Inspector Renault, they’re shocked that the baseless claims they had been repeating were nonsense. And a few of the experts who turned it up to 11 will no longer be invited into media green rooms.

Meanwhile the politicians are blaming the media, even though Rep. Adam Schiff, Rep. Maxine Waters, Rep. Jerry Nadler, Rep Ted Lieu, and many other political reps were every bit as bad as the ‘experts’. Some, like Schiff, are doubling down and will go on investigating Russian collusion until the media stops inviting them on morning shows to discuss the nothing that they found last week and the week before.

Too Many Are Ignoring the Rise of Anti-Semitism on the Left

By Rabbi Aryeh Spero, PJ MEDIA   – April 1, 2019

During the last two years, the media have been reporting about a rise in anti-Semitism. When the media write and speak about it, their focus is almost exclusively on “right-wing” anti-Semitism. Most of the establishment Jewish organizations, well known for their political liberalism and identification with the Democrat Party, similarly focus on anti-Semitism from the right and give only rare lip service when anti-Semitic writings and attacks come from the political left. (The Ilhan Omar case is a mild exception, though not generating anywhere near the determination and demonization if she had been from the political right). As each day goes by, guided by their own left-wing outlook as well as the hit-lists coming from the Southern Poverty Law Center, the category “right-wing” has expanded to include almost anything conservative or nationalistic, so that even expressed love of many aspects of America’s historic culture can confer on one the status of “white supremacist,” i.e., anti-Semite.

Egypt’s Israeli-Hamas deal further shakes Jordan’s Hashemite throne

DEBKA

The Hamas activists who spearhead radical Muslim Brotherhood opposition to Jordan’s King Abdullah were encouraged by Israel’s consent to the deal with Gaza’s Hamas rulers that was brokered by Egypt. They concluded from Israel’s avoidance of a large-scale military operation that their Gazan brothers’ terrorist tactics had bested the IDF’s renowned military and intelligence capabilities. They are contemplating borrowing those tactics to give the already shaky Hashemite throne in Amman a final push.

On the throne for 20 years, the 57-year old monarch’s low spirits raised alarm in Western circles during his visit to Washington in early March. King Abdullah turned down every Middle East project put before him, especially President Donald Trump’s Israel-Palestinian peace plan, when they were presented by Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the president’s special advisers Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt. The gloomy Jordanian King told them all not to count on him for any kind of cooperation in implementing US policies in the region.

Saudi Arabia Is No Ally for Israel

Mohammed bin Salman is a far greater strategic liability for Israel than its disastrous romance with another reckless, ruthless and treacherous strongman: Idi Amin

Zachary Shapiro, HAARETZ

Earlier this month, Iranian President Hassan Rohani implored Iranians to curse the United States, Israel and Saudi Arabia. It is no surprise coming from the Iranian regime, but it is also the latest response to the burgeoning, albeit unofficial, Israeli ties with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

No doubt these new developments are tempting, especially for the long-isolated Israel. But its once-blooming, then-sour relationship with Ugandan President Idi Amin in the 1970s offers a core lesson: rush into bed with Saudi Arabia at your own peril.

Israeli relations with Idi Amin defined his eight-year rule of Uganda, and the roots of the Amin-Israel romance run deep. Before his overthrow of Milton Obote in 1971, Amin trained with Israeli paratroopers.  As a rising officer in Obote’s army, Amin helped Israelis funnel weapons to the Anyanya insurgent group in neighboring Sudan, against the wishes of Obote and with the help of Israel’s military attache.

So you think the Golan is occupied.

[T. Belman. BRILLIANT]

By Valerie Sobel

Following President Trump’s executive order to recognize The Golan as part of Israel, the 28-country European Union (EU), as if stung by a wasp, sprung into immediate opposition: how dare Trump side with Israel when we have Islam to appease? Wasn’t the Embassy move to Jerusalem jarring enough?

Ditto for the liberal Canadian Government, famous for repatriating ISIS fighters and awarding millions of dollars to Islamic Taliban terrorists who murder American servicemen in Afghanistan.

G-d forbid we fail to mention United Nations, the wholly-owned subsidiary of the Arab League, so quick to strike the same gong. The beacon of political morality, the UN, is a just and unbiased authority when it comes to Israel. Just check out its Olympic track record of resolutions against Israel.

Expecting a different reaction from friends playing in the billion-dollar trade sandbox with Iran – would be expecting pigs to fly.

Israel in the crosshairs of 2020 US presidential elections

This year’s AIPAC convention faced the growing divide between the traditional pro-Israel Democratic base, which is still in the majority, and its growing anti-Israel wing.

Israeli Jewry, the 2020 US Presidential election has highlighted the profound differences between some progressive and many mainstream Democratic members, especially those who see the Middle East as an essential American interest, and the security of Israel as a primary concern.

If you thought the divisive battle between Republicans and Democrats over the JCPOA (Iran nuclear agreement) was over, think again. Democrats and Republicans are about to go at it again over Obama’s foreign policy legacy, concluded in 2015, and withdrawn by Trump three years later.

According to Al Monitor, “Re-entry into the nuclear deal with Iran is fast becoming a litmus test for Democrats” in 2020. “No fewer than five declared candidates said they would rejoin the deal without preconditions.”

Ayelet Shaked’s “judicial revolution”: A Canadian perspective (UPDATED)

By Dogan Akman (This is an update of the previous article.)

This past week, Ayelet Shaked, Israel’s Minister of Justice, (“the Minister”) announced that if she is re-elected and retains her ministerial post, she intends to revolutionise the judicial system in the first 100 days of her tenure and she set out the items that comprise her “revolutionary” agenda.

As a Canadian lawyer who laboured in the Federal Department of Justice which is headed by the Minister of Justice who is also the Attorney General (A.G.) and has been following the Israel’s Supreme Court (“the Court”), I would like to contribute a Canadian perspective to the reforms proposed by the Minister and suggest additional reforms that would complement the ones she proposes.

For the record, I am neither a left winger nor a right winger but am committed to enhance the performance of the judicial system and of the administration of justice and increase the citizens’ faith in the judiciary’s integrity and credibility, in Israel which  has been  plummeting of late.

Video: A First Temple period seal bearing a name that appears in the Bible discovered in the City of David

A First Temple period seal bearing a name that appears in the Bible (Natan-Melech) discovered in the City of David
Video: https://youtu.be/jMR-vk3gO8I

A rare and exciting discovery: A bulla (seal impression) and a 2,600-year-old stamp bearing Hebrew names were uncovered in the City of David.

The seal impression, dated to the First Temple period, features the words:

“(belonging) to Nathan-Melech, Servant of the King” (LeNathan-Melech Eved HaMelech). The name Nathan-Melech appears once in the Bible, in the second book of Kings 23:11, where he is described as an official in the court of King Josiah, who took part in the religious reform that the king was implementing: “And he took away the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of the Lord, by the chamber of Nathan-Melech the officer, which was in the precincts; and he burned thechariots of the sun with fire.”
