Bessent’s Formal Declaration of Economic War on Iranian Regime and All Who Might Enable Its Survival

In an op-ed in the Financial Times, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent describes Washington’s current Iran strategy as an “economic D-Day,” detailing a direct comparison to the 1943 Tehran Conference during WWII when Allied leaders planned the Normandy invasion so as to maximize pressure on Nazi Germany. While noting that military action thus far taken has significantly degraded Iran’s military and nuclear capabilities, Bessent characterizes what he describes as this final phase of the war as a comprehensive financial offensive specifically designed to completely isolate the regime.

Peloni: The only slaughter of innocents which the international community sees it the slaughter which is not taking place in Gaza. The only famine which is still daily cited on news reports around the world is in Gaza where there is and never was any famine. The only war which occupies the world is the war to eliminate terrorists who document, celebrate and continue attempted replications of actual slaughters of innocents simply because they are Jews. The world has no shame and they have no dignity. They are complicit in the crimes of Hamas, the perpetuation of terror across the region and the globe, and in the silence surrounding a very real Christian genocide taking place across Africa and the very real famine taking place within Sudan. The foul sickness of Jew Hatred fuels this warped obsession and distorted perspectives associated with all matters relating to Israel and Jews. Of course, you don’t have to be a Jew to recognize this fact as factual, as all that is necessary is the tiniest bit of common decency and a good bit of honesty.

An India-Israel Corridor Is the Biggest Middle East Story Nobody Is Talking About
Janet Levy: There are antisemitic overtones here – “if Israel plays it smart” as if it failed to do so up to this point post October 7th AND “if the Israelis elect a moderate government,” as if Bibi needs to be replaced, perhaps for someone who doesn’t hold Israel’s security needs as such a high priority.
Peloni: Focusing on security and military dominance, not trade, is what will perpetuate Israel into the future. In fact, electing a ‘moderate govt’ willing to support concessions in pursuit of the IMEC will lead to regional instabilities which will see the IMEC fail in any event. Note that the reason that the war precipitated the establishment of the IMEC in the past three years is precisely due to successive govts willing to make and live with security concessions. Israel doesn’t need a moderate govt. It needs a capable one, and if this is achieved, whatever comes next, Israel’s presence and regional dominance will leave it with a position of strength and capabilities which will see Israel isolated, but as an integral component of the region.

Beware Iran’s most devious weapon — another ‘October surprise’
Peloni: The threats which need to be extinguished remain fixed in place all about. From Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, the PA, neighboring allies of Jordan and Egypt or from Iran itself. Not one of these threats has not been diminished, yet not one of them has been excised either. With this in mind, what might seem poignant in the warning raised by Mark Dubowitz is that October surprises should be understood to stand as a potential going both ways, with the electoral fortunes of two statesmen standing in the balance, each known for their skill at making the most of political and military opportunities. So yes, the potential for an October surprise is very real, and all parties must be ready for what might be coming in the next few to several weeks.
