Israel should not preserve a solution she rejects

“Israel is continuing to expand settlements and undermining the chances of achieving peace,” Abdullah said in a speech before Arab leaders at the 28th Arab League Summit in Jordan.
The world generally accepts this idea and so does everything it can to stop Jewish building in Judea and Samaria. Even Pres Trump is on board with the need to do so.
What, in essence, they are saying is that the only path to peace is the two-state solution and so the possibility of it must be preserved at all costs. No one in the international community doubts, for a moment that ultimately it can be achieved or that, when achieved, it will bring peace. This is so even though history and logic say it will never happen.

Myth: Palestinians Want a Peaceful State Alongside Israel

Discussion of the Arab/Israeli situation is often unilluminating because so much of it is based on groundless assumptions and stubborn fictions. Perhaps the most pervasive one today afflicting the international political class is the notion that Palestinian Arabs primarily desire a state of their own, living peacefully alongside Israel.
Some examples in recent years:
- December 2016, then-Secretary of State John Kerry: “polls of Israelis and Palestinians show there is still strong support for the two-state solution.”

US Marines in Syria to defend Kurds against Turkey
The US has sent a group of US Marines armed with eight-wheeled Stryker armored carriers to northern Syria as a buffer between Syrian Kurds and Turkish forces, after Turkish air strikes killed 20 members of the US-backed Kurdish YPG (People’s Protection Units) militia, injured 18 and destroyed the local Kurdish command headquarters. Clashes broke out between Turkish and Kurdish forces after the air strikes.
The convoy of US armored vehicles took up positions at the village of Darbasiyah in the northeastern Hasakah province, a few hundred meters from the Turkey border.

A Peace Summit Sullied

Arab leaders met in Egypt for the Arab League Summit ostensibly to start a peace process with Israel, the same peace process that the Arabs have, without exception, always declined in the past. This time, they hope that our new President Trump will support a two-state solution, one that would deliver a border common to Israel and her avowed, homicidal enemy. They also expect to negate Trump’s campaign promise to move America’s embassy to Israel’s capital, Jerusalem, in keeping with the construct of violence that the Mohammedans have scorched into the history of every vanquished territory.

T. Belman. Since Trump’s spokesperson Toner said that Breaking of Silence and B’Tselem should be spoken to, surely Trump will follow his own advice and meet with Mudar Zahran.

The Ultimate Alternate Israel-Palestine Solution
With a new U.S. president, new ideas are emerging on how to resolve the Israel-Palestine debacle. One of the most promising comes from the Jordanian Opposition Council who favor a new Palestinian state — in Jordan.
The GOP unanimously approved a pro-Israel platform at their convention in July 2016 which stipulated:
“The U.S. seeks to assist in the establishment of comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East, to be negotiated among those living in the region,”
David Friedman and Jason Greenblatt, representing Donald Trump, participated in the drafting and were in complete agreement with the final text.
Gone was any reference to the Palestinian people or to a two-state solution. In addition, the platform included the words “We reject the false notion that Israel is an occupier.” If not an “occupier,” then presumably Israel is a sovereign.

Are Tourists Free to Wade at a Memorial?

Would you wade in Washington D.C.’s Rainbow Pool?
Let’s say it is a very hot day. There is hardly any shade nearby. But there is a cool pool, fed by a fountain.There are other people and kids wading in the pool.
On the other hand, that pool is part of the National World War II Memorial. There are signs saying not to wade in the pool. There are visitors who have come to honor those who served, and those who died, in World War II.
Is it OK to dip your feet in the pool?
No Big Deal
Opinions on the matter are mixed. Some visitors to the site find it rude and wrong for people to wade in the fountain. But plenty of tourists see nothing wrong with wading.
Eric Echevarria, 31, carried his young child into the pool on a hot summer day. He ignored the signs that read, “Honor Your Veterans. No wading. Coins damage fountain.”
He said the pool was a place to “relax, cool off.”
He was visiting from New Jersey. “People will say what they say,” he added.
Ashlee Montgomery, from Maryland, dipped her feet in the fountain. Her 6-year-old son splashed around in the pool.
“It’s a place to come and spend time with family,” she said. Her grandfather fought in World War II. She said she comes to the site to learn about the war. Her son asks questions about the site.
“It pulls people in,” she said.
Lack of Respect
But many visitors are shocked to see hundreds of people wading in the fountain. They feel it shows a lack of respect. People who work at the site agree.
“This is a memorial; this is not a pool,” said Jasmine Daniel, 20. She runs tours at the site.
Finding a balance between respect and recreation is a challenge every year, said Jenny Anzelmo-Sarles.She works for the National Park Service.
“We hope that members of the public will choose to respect these sacred places and the people they honor,” she said.
About 16 million people served in the U.S. forces during World War II. More than 400,000 died.
Veterans and their families have complained about the wading. Many people got upset two years ago, after a photo showed a man changing a child’s diaper on the edge of the pool.
Living in Freedom
Julian Bonder studies the role of memorials in public life.
“Memorials are related to life,” he said. If dipping one’s feet in the water makes a person feel alive, Bonder doesn’t see that as a lack of respect.
“How do we honor those who gave their lives for us to enjoy our lives in freedom?” he said.
Bonder said it’s important to remember that the freedom they fought for gives others the right to act how they choose.

Free speech is under assault at college throughout the United States, as demonstrated by recent cases of progressive students shouting down and disrupting invited speakers on campuses in California and Vermont. The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) has found that 39.6 percent of the 449 schools it surveyed maintain “severely restrictive, ‘red light’ speech codes that clearly and substantially prohibit constitutionally protected speech.” The libertarian campus organization Young Americans for Liberty (YAL), takes freedom of expression seriously through its Fight for Free Speech project, through which local activist chapters educate other students about their constitutional rights, organize petitions, pass out pocket copies of the U.S. Constitution, and build “Free Speech Walls” that allow students to write whatever they want.

On Tuesday, Turkey bombed the headquarters of Kurdish fighters in northern Syria, killing 20 of our soldiers. Immediately after the strike, the leaders of our forces — known as the People’s Protection Groups, or YPG — rushed from their operations center near Raqqa, where they’ve been working with the U.S. military to push the Islamic State out of its Syrian stronghold, to view the site of the attack. The American colonel and other officers who accompanied the YPG leaders were met by tens of thousands of protesters, including the mothers of soldiers who have died fighting the Islamic State. They asked the Americans a simple question: “How is it possible that our soldiers are fighting with you against ISIS while your ally Turkey is attacking us here?”

All 100 US senators signed a letter to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres Thursday demanding an end to the “unacceptable” anti-Israel bias in the international body.
The strongly worded letter, authored by Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Christopher A. Coons (D-Del.) and released on Friday, was signed by every member of the US Senate.
