In my correspondence regarding the events in Cologne, an editor of a Russian newspaper asked me a natural, but discouraging question; “Where were the German men?”, he inquired of me, perplexed.

Indeed, for us who grew up in Soviet Russia, it would be inconceivable that some drunk young people could publicly mock and harass girls on New Year’s Eve in the very center of Moscow or Saint Petersburg. If they dared to do this, they wouldn’t survive until the morning, they would become “martyrs” and would have their way with 72 virgins in a completely different realm.

Filber Committee hands in recommendations that will allow conservatives to establish a TV channel and broadcast non-PC news.

A governmental committee has handed in recommendations that will end the leftist monopoly over news content on Israeli television.

The inter-ministerial committee under Communications Ministry Director Shlomo Filber has recommended – according to multiple news reports Monday – to end the situation in which the only channels broadcasting news are Channels 2 and10.

Implementation of the recommendations will open up the communications market to competition and allow, among other things, an Israeli “Fox News” – that is, one or more channels that provide news content that is not liberal-leftist in nature.

The committee’s reforms are extremely important in Netanyahu’s eyes. He made sure to be appointed Minister of Communications himself, and placed Filber, whom he trusts, at the head of the committee. He also made all Coalition partners sign a document that states they agree to vote in favor of any reform in the communications market that he advances.

Zionist Union leader Isaac Herzog vigorously denied reports Sunday suggesting that his new plan to separate from the Palestinians without creating a Palestinian state is intended to pave the way to enter Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.

The plan is seen as shifting Herzog’s Labor Party to the Center, because it says a two-state solution is not currently realistic and calls for completing the security fence around settlement blocs.

A report on Israel Radio suggested that Herzog’s shift may have been aimed at bringing his party into the government and preempting a challenge to his leadership from former IDF chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi, who was cleared of potential criminal charges last week.

Ministers Ya’alon, Shaked and Ariel to head up new government coordination group for Jewish activities in Judea and Samaria.

In an effort to end the coalition crisis that resulted from the eviction of some 200 Jews from their purchased homes in Hevron last week, the government has decided to create a joint commission to coordinate activities for Jewish residents in Judea and Samaria.

T. Belman. I do not understand why Yaalon is involved in this decision. Normally, if you buy a property, you can move in. If someone wants to challenge your ownership they have legal process.  But here it appears that you can’t move in without Yaalon’s approval. It would appear that you have to prove to Yaalon’s satisfaction that your purchase was legal. Secondly Netanyahu said he would investigate and issue a report in a week. Why not in a day?

PM Netanyahu failed to quell all rebellion threats from Bayit Yehudi politicians who pledged to vote against the coalition on Monday to protest the forced eviction of Jewish families Friday from two homes in the West Bank city of Hebron.

Bayit Yehudi MK Bezalel Smotrich said he would continue to boycott Knesset votes, which could prevent the government from passing key legislation.

President Barack Obama resolved earlier this month, much to the surprise of Washington insiders, to open a third anti-terror front in Libya to eradicate the Islamic Front’s tightening grip on the country.

While collaborating with Russia in the Syrian arena, and with the Iranians and the Iraqi army and Sunnis in Iraq, Obama took his close aides by surprise by another decision – to lead the Libya campaign again in conjunction with Russia, as well as with concerned Western Europe allies.

The first step in this campaign took place this weekend: A group of US, Russian, French and Italian Special Forces quietly landed at a point south of Tobruk near the Libyan-Egyptian frontier. Standing by after preparing the ground were some 1,000 British SAS troops.

Native Americans: Native Americans lived in the United States for millennia before Europeans discovered the land. Within a few hundred years, the Europeans overwhelmed the native population and effectively banished them from their lands and homes. To add insult to the injury, the invaders forced new religions onto the remaining tribes.

In the 20^th century, Americans began to slowly reverse course and offered more rights to the Native Americans, including American citizenship in 1924. At present, the United States recognizes several hundred Native American tribes and gives them some degree of autonomy in lands of their own.

If Israel would have caved under US pressure to retreat from the Golan Heights – a site of Jewish battles against the Roman Empire – ISIS and other terrorists would be there, overlooking the Sea of Galilee, traumatizing northern Israel and beyond.

• The expectations of Kurdistan becoming an ally of Israel, America, and Europe may be in danger if the West continues to prioritize Iraqi and Turkish interests over those of the Kurds.
• As Kurds continue to be disappointed by Western military and political support, Iran has found numerous opportunities to expand its political, economic, and military influence in Iraqi Kurdistan.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Saturday admitted that anti-Semitism is “more widespread” in Germany than some believe.

Speaking in her weekly podcast and quoted by Haaretz, Merkel called for action to “deal with [anti-Semitism] – especially among young people… from countries where hatred of Israel and the hatred of Jews is widespread.”

Anti-Semitism, she stressed, is more “widespread than we imagine, and that’s why we have to make intensive efforts against it.” The Chancellor noted the negative effects of anti-Semitic propaganda online and attempts to combat it.

Isaac Herzog met on Friday at the Elysée Palace with French President François Hollande and Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, presenting his new diplomatic plan of separation from Palestinian villages surrounding Jerusalem.

The meeting lasted more than an hour and was described by a source close to Herzog as warm and friendly.

Apart from discussing the diplomatic situation in the Middle East, the three spoke also at length about the French-Jewish community.

I’ve stated that the # 1 problem facing humanity currently is radical Islam and all of its supporters which are many. Newsflash: It isn’t global warming. Helping a terrorist state like Iran obtain nuclear weapons is perhaps the greatest existential threat to not only Israel but the world at large. Likewise is Islam’s conquest of the West by immigration.

T. Belman. This is worth reading though I disagree with the emphases. Kramer Suggests that if Bibi renounced the TSS, the West would also. I think it is the other way around. The West is focussed on wresting control of Area C from our hands so that they will ultimate arrive at the TSS. The West decided a year ago, to abandon the “peace process” because it  gave Israel and the Arabs a veto. Instead they are acting unilaterally to arrive at the same place.

Since 1947, the 2-state solution (an Arab State alongside the State of Israel) has been the holy grail of Western diplomats. Notice that I said Western; most Muslim countries have never subscribed to that concept. The proof of Muslim antipathy to the Jewish State is the continuous incitement and hostile acts against it, plus the fact that only Egypt and Jordan enjoy peace treaties with Israel, 67 years after Israel’s independence.

Part of the reason for the current upheaval in the Maghreb and Levant (North African/Eastern Mediterranean countries respectively) is the shallow roots of the existing Arab states. Prior to the post-WWI era, there were no Arab “countries” except for Egypt, which existed for thousands of years and gained independence from Britain in 1922. It was the Europeans, particularly the British and the French, who set arbitrary boundaries for the new Arab states in 1916. Before that, Arabs had been colonized by the Europeans and the Turks. (The Ottoman Empire stretched throughout the Balkans and the Levant for many centuries, until it effectively dissolved during WWI.)

The biting criticism of Israel’s policies in Judea and Samaria expressed this week by U.S. Ambassador Daniel Shapiro is not a bolt from the blue. It is a planned and purposeful escalation of American pressure on Israel, meant to force Israel into withdrawal, without peace diplomacy or Palestinian commitments.

Surprise at Shapiro’s tough comments could only be expressed by those who have not been paying attention. Shapiro’s remarks echoed recent statements made by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry at the Saban Forum in Washington on Dec. 5, and by U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Samantha Power at the Haaretz-New Israel Fund conference in New York on Dec. 14. Shapiro added some icy icing of his own.
