The heat is on: Options for deterrence in the Middle East

Peloni:  It would take very little effort to provide some course correction to the currently abysmal anti-US US policy in the Middle East, but as Dyer explains, this would require a different administration, and one not inclined to making US involvement more prolonged than needed to achieve the tasks at hand.

I found her use of the term Petunia to describe the current ‘administration’ in Washington to be instructive, because no matter how you might describe it otherwise, the current anomaly controlling the levers of power in the American Empire is altogether a pervasion of every intent or expectation of govt which was ever anticipated by either the Constitution or even the current or past renditions of what comprised the American people.  Petunia has caused a great deal of damage to the prestige and influence of the US in the region and the world in a very short time, and that would be in regards to America’s allies and adversaries, both.  It has cost many lives, and will continue to do so til something more competent and American might replace Petunia, its corruption, and its corrupting influences.

To re-seize the initiative and get deterrence going.

As usual, late-breaking news demands to be included in this article.  I’m not going to rewrite the piece to reflect any potential change in likelihood, this weekend, that a response to a major, concerted attack on Israel – and very possibly U.S. interests as well – may shortly be in order.  But the tea leaves seem to read that way.

Vice Presidents Don’t Matter

by

The hype over whom Kamala, a VP, will pick as her VP, is part of the astroturf effort to generate excitement around her non-candidacy. It really doesn’t matter which of the contenders she ends up picking.

The last vice president to take the White House before Biden was George H.W. Bush. And like Biden he was a one-term president.

Four Revealing Tweets from Mike Doran

Peloni: To preempt the Iranian strike or not to preempt the Iranian strike.  That really is the only question at hand currently.   Or is this simply a blind bluff to get Iran to stand down its multi-layered attack for some form of response which is more deflectable.  Given Israel’s recent demonstration of its real time intelligence capabilities, I would suspect that this is no ruse, particularly in light of the likely political fallout which would accompany the failure to follow thru on such a public threat of an Israeli preemptive response.  Hence, I think the preemptive strike is more than likely if Iran does not step back from their own threats.

The Islamic Republic prepares to avenge Ismail Haniyeh

by Behnam Ben Taleblu | August 4, 2024

Bloodlust” is a term cascading across the Iranian media space this week:

“Bloodlust is commanded,” declared Jam-e Jam newspaper, connected to Iran’s state-sanctioned broadcaster.

“All of Iran seeks your bloodlust,” touted the Tehran daily Hamshahri.

“Iran with one voice seeks the bloodlust of [our] dear guest,” Khorasan newspaper proclaimed.

The British people’s pushback against unlimited immigration has begun

By Andrea Widburg | August 4, 2024

Sparked by British people daring to stand up to the government’s unlimited Third World (and deeply pro-Islamic) immigration policies, anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant riots are raging across the UK. This post will provide context for what’s happening, along with videos of the riots.

England has had a few mass immigration experiences: In the first half of the first millennium, the Romans slaughtered and subjugated the Celtic population or sent them to the Isle’s geographic fringes. The remaining Romano-British population was replaced in the second half of that millennium by waves of Nordic invaders. In 1066, the Normans overran the Anglo-Saxons, who became subordinate in their own land. Until recently, that was the last conquest of that small collection of islands in the Atlantic.

This is Alarming – Secret Service Give First Press Briefing, The Sketchy U.SSS Look Even Worse

Peloni:  It is impossible to believe that the first press conference on the live, on-air assassination attempt of a former president and current candidate for president took three weeks to assemble.  Furthermore, even after three weeks, the obvious outrages and incoherent excuses being offered by the Secret Service are so glaring that no one with the slightest critical thinking skills would be swayed by them to believe that there was no ill intent against President Trump motivating the entire situation.

Sundance | August 4, 2024

I’m just catching up on some events that I have missed. The first press conference by the U.S. Secret Service about the Trump assassination attempt was alarming. This is the first time the media had to question USSS since the attempted assassination in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Secure Enclaves: Another Bad Idea Wasting Billions

Peloni:  Bryen presents a very important analysis of the effort to solve US dependence on foreign chip producers which he argues will only serve to produce more expensive, less quality chips at the hands of foreigners.  The fundamentals in the US need to be addressed to address this problem, and that begins with the catastrophic crisis in US education.  Without first addressing this sizeably related problem, any attempt to solve the US dependence on foreign sources of chips will struggle with the consequences of not having done so.

The Intel Debacle Proves the Commerce Department handed out money uncritically

Stephen Bryen | Weapons and Strategy | August 4, 2024

Grants and Loans Under Chips Act to Intel (not including $3.9 billion for Secure Enclaves)

While all the focus in the past week has been on a significant crisis for America’s once premier semiconductor company, Intel, hidden from view is another blunder –a $3.9 billion project to build a “secure enclave” semiconductor manufacturing facility.  Intel will probably locate this facility in Arizona, where it already has a semiconductor FAB.

Blueprint for triumph: Strategic guidelines for the Gaza campaign

Peloni: An important analysis by Gen. Avivi on how the war in Gaza must proceed from here.

Analysis: Israel plans to dismantle Hamas’ military and governmental capabilities in Gaza, establish a provisional administration to prevent terrorism’s return, free hostages, control aid and maintain a military presence for lasting security

Brigadier General (res.) Amir Avivi | August 3, 2024

Israel has got to move on to the next level in the Gaza arena and strive decisively to obtain the war’s objectives, namely: collapsing Hamas’ military and governmental capabilities, targeting its leaders, bringing back all the hostages and ushering in the conditions for the “Day After” in Gaza.

What does ‘ending the war’ in Gaza mean to the next American president?

by Eric R. Mandel | August 2, 2024

When Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu met recently with President Biden, former President Trump, and Vice President Harris, all of them were reported to have told Israel to “end” its war with Hamas. A Wall Street Journal headline summed it up this way, “Netanyahu Receives Clear Message on Gaza War: Wrap It Up.”

What does it mean when Trump says Israel must end the war in Gaza “and get it done quickly.” Does that mean do nothing about the inevitable return of the thousands of determined Hamas terrorists still hiding in the hundreds of miles of tunnels not yet uncovered?

John Spencer & Arsen Ostrovsky: The World Should Thank Israel Now

Peloni:  There was a time in which killing terrorists was heralded as a mark of stability.  Yet in an age in which the leader of the free world is itself financing terrorists, such assassinations are characterized as destabilizing an entire region, when in truth, the action which is destabilizing the region is the by the international community’s mimicking US support of terrorism rather than condemning such illicit actions.  When such support for barbarity finally evaporates, the Middle East will have a chance to return to some fraction of its former stability, but til then, we will have terrorists feeling empowered to threaten the entire world, as is taking place currently at this very moment.

Two Cheers for the Mossad

by Rafael Bardaji | Voz | July 31, 2024

Since 1967, Israel’s strategic and military orientation gradually marginalized the option of preemptive strikes, and anticipation gave way to a defensive concept that essentially relied on the ability to discover what the enemy was up to, rely on warning signs and be able to react in time.

Josh Shapiro speaks on Israel-Palestine, views on two-state solution

Peloni:  After demonstrating himself as being out of step with reality with his still stated strong support for the TSS, Gov. Shapiro demonstrates himself as being out of step with reality in stating that Biden is still capable of doing the job of president.  The frank disconnect which are tied to making these statements are only matched by Shapiro’s sincere expression of support for these inexplicable positions while maintaining a serious composure.

Hamas kingpin Haniyeh’s demise and the symphony of international reactions

By Amil Imani | August 3, 2024

As the dust settles from the deceased top leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, the world’s political stage has transformed into a theatre of varied reactions that a master of satire might well script.

From fiery condemnation to ice-cold neutrality and occasional cheer, it’s as if the global community was playing an intricate game of diplomatic charades, each actor vying for the best performance.
