Five Alternatives for the Future of Gaza

IDF Spokesperson

BESA Center Perspectives Paper No. 2,287, June 24, 2024

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: In this article I will present five alternatives for the future of Gaza. Israel’s long-term strategy to ensure its continued existence entails the accomplishment of these goals: destruction of Hamas’s military capabilities, abolition of Hamas control in Gaza, and the preservation of good relations with the United States. Less core strategic considerations are the return of the abductees, the crisis on the northern front, relations within the region, and Israel’s legitimacy. The alternatives for Gaza’s future are: the Hamas option, which is the most problematic; the revitalized Palestinian Authority option; the military-civilian option, which seems the most balanced; the chaos option; and the sovereignty option, which is also very problematic. It is essential to conduct a far-reaching discussion on all these alternatives and to avoid attachment to any one of them.

In the Islamic Middle East, doctrinal antisemites have remained faithful to their most primal hatreds.

Unyielding reality: why an Islamic Middle East rejects Israel

By LOUIS RENÉ BERES  JUNE 24, 2024 04:57

IRAN’S LATE SUPREME LEADER Ayatollah Ali Khamenei meets with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, last month. It doesn’t matter at all to Iran and Hamas if Israel agrees to political and territorial concessions, says the writer. (photo credit: Office of the Iranian Supreme Leader/West Asia News Agency/Reuters)

‘The hour of judgment shall not come until the Muslims fight the Jews, and kill them….”Sahih Muslim, Book 41, cited at The Charter of Hamas (1988)

Israel is loathed by its jihadist enemies because it is a Jewish state, not because it is Zionist. For these enemies, both state and sub-state, Israel is never more than the individual Jew writ large. It matters not at all to Iran, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, etc., if Israel agrees to political compromises and territorial surrenders. For these recalcitrant foes, Muslims are still obligated to “fight the Jews, and kill them…” For them, a Jewish state in the Dar al Islam (the world of Islam) – any Jewish state – represents an inherently intolerable abomination.

For the US to target Putin’s nuclear defences is reckless beyond belief

By Rodney Atkinson, THE CONSERVATIVE WOMAN – June 17, 2024

THE West’s Ukrainian proxy war against Russia continues to go badly with Russian advances on all fronts and big Ukrainian troop losses. Even worse, the most belligerent political leaders (Biden, Macron and Sunak) are losing votes at home. French President Macron lost extremely badly in the European elections, with Marine Le Pen’s National Rallygarnering twice as many votes as Macron’s Renaissanceparty. This led Macron to call a snap general election, and there is talk of his resignation if he does not win.

Israel and the U.S. Need to Get Tough on Egypt Cairo has turned a blind eye to Hamas’s tunneling and shipments of weapons over and under its border.

T. Belman. The authors could have mentioned that weapons issued to the Egyptian army have been found on killed Hamas terrorists. They also could have mentioned Egypt’s refusal to allow refugee camps to be set up in Egypt was intended, among other things, to keep the Gazans bottled up uin Gaza

By Reuel Marc Gerecht June 23, 2024 2:08 pm ET

Antony Blinken has visited Cairo again. The U.S. secretary of state met with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on June 10 to talk about Israel, Hamas, hostages and the future of the Gaza Strip.

The Egyptian military, like Iran and Qatar, knows Hamas’s leadership well. This surely isn’t only because of proximity. Although neither Washington nor Jerusalem wants to say so, the Oct. 7 attack on Israel couldn’t have happened without the Egyptian army’s turning a blind eye to the shipment of arms and other materiel over and under the Egypt-Gaza border. Greed and anti-Zionist sympathies likely fed trade and ties between senior Egyptian officers and Hamas commanders.

Israeli and American officials long operated under the false assumption that the Egyptian army’s loathing of the Muslim Brotherhood and its offshoots—including Hamas—would keep in check the army’s corruption and anti-Israeli bias.

Israel and Europe’s Turn to the Right

Good or bad for the Jewish state?

Hugh Fitzgerald | June 24, 2024

As Europeans have increasingly turned to the right, with the electoral victories of Geert Wilders’ Party for Freedom in the Netherlands, of Giorgia Meloni’s Fratelli d’Italia in Italy, of Marine Le Pen and Jordan Bardella’s National Rally in France, and of Alice Weidel’s Alternative für Deutschland in Germany, Israel should unembarrassedly make common cause with these leaders and parties, all of which have expressed stout support for Israel. The increased popularity of these parties is due mainly to their firm stance against continued Muslim migration into their countries, a stance that has caused them to be labelled, quite unfairly, as “far-right.”

Election Fraud in Virginia

Peloni:  The Uniparty has two wings, the Right and the Left, and neither has any respect for the public whose elections are being stolen.  It is good that Trump has finally gained control over the party, or most of it, but a question remains to be answered, Where was Trump’s Republican party during the election fraud which took place during the Lynchburg Va election, and how will they act now that this election was violated?  The answer to both of these questions have implications for November, as does the RINO candidate which won the election in question.

The Gaza Terror Offensive 14 May – 19 June 2024

by Dr. Eado Hecht

IDF forces activity in the Gaza Strip. © IDF Spokesperson

We cannot always prevent the murder of workers in an orchard or sleeping families, but we can set a high price for our blood. A price too high for the Arab settlement, the Arab army and the Arab government to pay. … [Retaliation operations] are not for vengeance. It is an act of punishment and warning, that if that state does not control its population and does not prevent them attacking us – the Israeli forces will cause havoc in its land.

Farage shines in Frinton

By Kathy Gyngell,THE CONSERVATIVE WOMAN – June 17, 2024

LAST week I promised (to huge reader endorsement) that until the broadcasters treated Reform UK and Nigel Farage fairly – without bias and reflecting the strength of his party’s support in the country I would ‘balance’ our coverage of him in his favour.

When I wrote that, I knew the BBC and rest of the ‘mainstream’ channels were congenitally incapable of according him that democratic respect. I knew this because with David Keighley, director of News-watch, we’ve tracked the extraordinary editorial bias against him, encapsulated by Patrick O’Flynn here, but that we monitored back in his UKIP days and from the 1999 EU Parliament elections onwards. Then he was not only consigned to the margins of the schedules but openly sneered at by the BBC’s main news and current affairs presenters. It was a bias that carried on through to his Brexit Party days, in a continuing mistreatment and demonising of him by the BBC described here by David.

From Israel: Shining a Light on the Jews of Israel!!

Arlene Kushner | June 23, 2024

YNet

Sometimes we need to be reminded of who we are. This is particularly the case now, during this horrendous time when the world works incessantly to demean us, attack us in every way possible.

Actually, what has happened is that we have been challenged to our best.

Last week, a much-loved Senior Staff Sergeant Major Elon Waiss, an educator, a father of seven and grandfather of one little girl, was killed in Gaza. He was serving as a volunteer (i.e., he didn’t have to be there but was dedicated to serving Israel); he was due to return home for his daughter’s wedding.

Antisemitism vs. anti-Israelism

By Walter E. Block, AM THINKER

Image via Pxfuel.

I have antisemitic tendencies and am also a critic of Israel.  With the advent of the Antisemitism Awareness Act, which has just passed the House of Representatives with a 320-91 vote, and will soon wend its way toward the Senate, I shall be in deep trouble.

What antisemitic tendencies do I have?  I have strong negative feelings toward most Jews.  They are disproportionately supporters of socialism, wokeism, and every left-wing liberal shibboleth that comes down the pike.  I am utterly convinced that socialists are either stupid or evil.  I am equally of the opinion that Jews are not of low intelligence.  Indeed, we (for I am myself a proud Jew) have the highest I.Q.s of any demographic.  Draw your own conclusions.

Egypt’s Energy Challenges and Their Political Implications for the War in Gaza

Geoenergy Insights, No. 2, June 23, 2024

By June 23, 2024

Executive Summary: Developments in the Eastern Mediterranean over the past decade have placed Egypt at the center of a regional cooperation system regarding energy and political strategy. Gas discoveries in Egypt’s economic waters, significant investments by the Egyptian government in the energy sector, the 2019 establishment in Cairo of a regional gas forum, and the presence of two existing liquefaction facilities in Egypt (in Idku and Damietta) all augur well for Egypt’s ambition to be the regional hub for gas exports. The export of gas from Israel to Egypt also contributes to Egypt’s energy security, both in terms of the regular supply of electricity to the local economy and the export of a significant amount of gas to Europe in exchange for foreign currency urgently needed in Egyptian coffers. The war in Gaza has added complexity to Egypt’s policy towards Israel since the imports of gas from Israel are essential to its energy stability. Moreover, the Houthi attacks have decreased traffic in the Suez Canal and caused serious damage to Egypt’s economy.

Real US Support Means Signing Off On Civilian Losses Required To Destroy Hezbollah Missiles

Dr. Aaron Lerner , IMRA   23 June 2024

“Senior US officials reassured a delegation of top Israeli officials visiting Washington this week that if a full-out war were to break out on
Israel’s northern border between Israel and Hezbollah, the Biden administration is fully prepared to back its ally, according to a senior
administration official.”

US offers assurances to Israel this week in the event of full-blown war with Hezbollah

By MJ Lee, CNN    Fri June 21, 2024

Here is why real US support for Israel means signing off, publicly, and in advance, on the civilian Lebanese losses required to destroy Hezbollah missiles:

#1. The Hezbollah missiles, when launched, will cause catastrophic damage to Israel both in life and limb and in the destruction of critical life supporting infrastructure.

U.N. has ‘plan of action’ to curtail free speech in every nation of the world

LEO HOHMANN

Don’t look now but your First Amendment rights are up for negotiation at the United Nations, just as they are at the World Economic Forum and other globalist organizations that are aligned with the burgeoning one-world system.

On June 18, in recognition of International Day for Countering Hate Speech – yes, they actually have a day for that – the United Nations Secretary-General called for the eradication of “hate speech” around the world.

While that may sound nice in today’s world, where it tickles the ears of the naive Western liberals, keep in mind that “hate speech” is in the eye of the beholder.

This U.N. statement should be seen as a harbinger, a clear signal, that the U.N. and its many globalist allies are getting ready to clamp down even harder on what we the people are allowed to say or write online. The intent of the globalists is to criminalize all speech with which they disagree.

A Stiff-Necked Nation

By Gary Epstein | June 20, 2024

We must admit that we Jews are known for stubbornness. Our own God refers to us as a stiff-necked nation and is repeatedly thwarted by our obdurate refusal to simply do what we are told or what others would have us do. We have endured centuries of oppression and even death for adamantly refusing to accept other people’s gods. And if the prophets are to be believed, we have been repeatedly punished for our obstinacy.

Recognizing a character flaw is the first step to overcoming it. Perhaps we can do better.

Given our well-earned reputation for intransigence, confronted by the displeasure of mobs on campuses and town squares throughout the world, facing boycotts and moral disapprobation in august international bodies, criticized by such moral paragons as Greta Thunberg, Emmanuel Macron, Junior Trudeau, and Recep Tayyep Erdogan, not to mention an abundance of Imams, Ayatollahs, and progressive Congresswomen, why can’t we simply face reality and go along to get along?

JERUSALEM – In roughly one month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will come to Washington to address a joint meeting of Congress.

It’s against this backdrop that we went to Jerusalem to interview Netanyahu Thursday. Punchbowl News co-founder Jake Sherman discussed a wide range of issues with the longtime Israeli premier, including Netanyahu’s sharp disagreements with President Joe Bidenhis views on Congress, pro-Palestinian protests in the United States and the wave of civilian deaths in Gaza.

In conversation with President Trump

Peloni:  A very important interview with President Trump.  He broke ground on a good many things in this interview, such as no US troops in Ukraine, period, that the threat of Ukraine entering NATO was caused the war, that the economic war on Russia made it possible for Russia to prosecute the war, no mention of pushing ‘peace’ on Israel, that Iran flushed with cash is a real problem, no national ban on abortion, war with China was unlikely, that Covid escaped the Wuhan lab, foreign students who graduate from college will get a green card, and he will release the JFK file.  Also, he notably dodged the issue of prosecuting Fauci.
