Initially the goal of the Russian military was to strategically take over all of Ukraine by focusing on taking over the capital Kiev, installing a puppet government sympathetic to Russia, and occupying all of Ukraine as needed. Logistic challenges were too many. Poor troop training and planning were primary causes of failure.

There are many reasons for effecting judicial reform in Israel, not the least of them the way Supreme Court judges are chosen and the absolute power held by the unelected legal advisor to the Prime Minister (who also functions as the attorney general) and the legal advisors to the government ministries. Add the absence of a demand for standing, the fact that everything, including religious, military and economic decisions can be (and are) adjudicated in the courts, the fact that a justice’s opinion of the “reasonableness” of an issue allows him to strike it down and that all of the above are particular to Israel.

After the leak of Justice’s Alito opinion on the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, there has been an organized campaign to attack the Supreme court’s legitimacy, which really began years ago. The Wall Street Journal writes:

But as the court has grown more conservative in recent years, the left has stepped up the attacks on the court’s “legitimacy,” including character assassination of individual justices, with little objection from mainstream Democrats and plenty of help from the media.

Justice Alito says “this type of concerted attack on the court and on individual justices” is “new during my lifetime. . . . We are being hammered daily, and I think quite unfairly in a lot of instances. And nobody, practically nobody, is defending us.

The biggest protest came not from ancient historians calling out fake history, but from Egypt, where a lawyer filed a complaint with the public prosecutor alleging that the casting promotes “the Afrocentric thinking . . . which includes slogans and writings aimed at distorting and erasing the Egyptian identity.”

A San Francisco-based bank collapsed on Monday and was seized by the federal government and quickly sold to JPMorgan Chase following for billions of dollars in what was the second-largest bank failure in U.S. history. First Republic Bank operated 84 locations in eight states but did not have the capital to hand to handle withdrawals during a bank run that commenced following the collapse of two other mid-size banks in March, the Associated Press reported.

Three judges of the High Court of Justice on 24 May 2018 unanimously rejected a final appeal by the 200 residents of Khan al-Ahmar to demolish the illegal settlement and evacuate its residents – finding the Government had that right “under the letter of the law”.
