NATO can’t save Ukraine from defeat and Europe’s leaders fear what happens next when that day inevitably arrives

Europe is facing defeat in Ukraine as its policies on the war go sideways. Europe’s approach is increasingly unreflective of the growing reality on the ground while growing efforts to punish Russia and promote sending troops to Ukraine appear counterproductive.

A good example of this is Germany, which has indicated it will keep supporting Ukraine and push its anti-Russia agenda. Chancellor Olaf Scholz no longer refers to Vladimir Putin as Russia’s president and now only speaks of the Russian leader by his last name, Putin.

Former president Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden by 8 points in Michigan, according to a CNN poll released Friday.

The poll shows 50 percent of likely Michigan voters supporting Trump, with only 42 percent supporting Biden. Biden only holds a 35 percent approval rating in the state, while 40 percent of voters view Trump favorably.

The evening of Oct. 6 was especially festive at Kibbutz Alumim, one of the two religiously observant kibbutzim among the communities that dot the Gaza envelope, the part of Israel’s fertile northwestern Negev region adjacent to the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. Most of Alumim’s 500 residents and their guests had gathered at the kibbutz’s synagogue to celebrate with song and dance the start of the Simchat Torah holiday, one of the two most joyous days on the Jewish calendar. Taiwan seemingly confirmed that the US has boots on the ground on islands off the coast of China, in what could escalate tensions in the region.

The admission came when Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng was asked about a report saying US Special Forces have been training the Taiwanese military on outlying islands — including one just three miles from China, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“This exchange is for mutual observation, to identify problems we have, figure out how to improve, and to recognize their strengths so we can learn from them,” he said, according to the report.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La) on Thursday told CNBC he will invite Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of Congress, for the second time in nine years.

Johnson said on CNBC’s Squawk Box, “I would love to have him come in and address a joint session of Congress. We’ll certainly extend that invitation. We’re just trying to work out schedules on all this.”
