‘Excuse du jour’: Israeli protesters demand a constitution

by Martin Sherman

Thousands of Israeli protesters rally against PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s new government in Tel Aviv, Feb. 11, 2023. (Gili Yaari /Flash90)

The raising of the issue of a constitution as a potential way out of the political impasse over the future of Israel’s legal system is nothing but a red herring on the part of the opponents of judicial reform.

Antisemitism embeds itself more firmly in the heart of the Democrat party

By Andrea Widburg, AM THINKER

American Jews are overwhelmingly Democrat in orientation. They’re also, sensibly, extremely worried about antisemitism. The problem is that these same Democrat Jews are blind to the fact that antisemitism is the growing rot at the heart of their own party.

There are lots of reasons Jews are leftists. The main reason, probably, is that American Jews are dedicated to college degrees. There were already jokes in the 1930s showing a lady smiling down at a brand new baby swaddled in a white blanket and asking, “So, what is it? A doctor or a lawyer?” For American Jews, the journey from shtetl to tenement to the middle class was a short one if you could see your son (and, later, your daughter) through college. They are one of the most credentialed religious groups in America.

42 radical left-wing protestors were arrested in Israel during Tuesday‘s “Day of Disruption“ as the Biden Regime continues to push for regime change in the Holy Land. Israel’s Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir warned the Biden insurrectionists: “Israel is no longer a star on the American flag.“ The USA has spent $15 million on radical left-wing subversives trying to destroy the Jewish state 2012-2021.

Netanyahu’s still in charge. Can Biden say the same?

The president’s latest shot at the Israeli government as “extreme” is hypocritical and inaccurate. The Palestinian Arabs remain the obstacle to peace.

By Jonathan S. Tobin 11.7.23

(JNS) In an interview this past weekend with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, President Joe Biden painted a dismal picture of one of America’s closest allies. Following up on previous statements damning Israel’s leaders, Biden claimed that the Jewish state was being run by “one of the most extreme governments” he’s ever seen. He went on to characterize the goings-on in the Israeli cabinet as a coalition with “problems” and one where Prime Minister Benjamin (“Bibi”) Netanyahu is struggling to maintain control by “moving toward moderation.”

Palestinian Authority: Al-Jazeera Incites Against Us In Service Of Qatar, Hamas, Muslim Brotherhood

MEMRI   July 11, 2023

QatarPalestine | Special Dispatch No. 10701

On July 3-5, 2023, the Israeli armed forces conducted a military operation in the Jenin refugee camp against the Jenin Brigade, a recently formed group comprising fighters from several Palestinian terror organizations, including the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ); Fatah’s military wing, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, and Hamas’ military wing, the ‘Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam Brigades. Although the operation  resulted in the death of 12 armed terrorists[1] and in the dismantling of terror infrastructures in Jenin, the media outlets of the various terrorist organizations, chief of them Hamas, present it as an achievement and victory of the Palestinian resistance.[2]

Silencing the ‘Sound of Freedom’

Why is the leftist media targeting a movie about child sex trafficking?

Arguably no issue is less partisan, and more likely to unite people of every political stripe, even in our current state of hyper-polarization, than child trafficking. How could opposition to the cruel kidnapping of children and their forced recruitment into the international sex trade fail to draw unified support from all corners? And yet when a movie comes along that dares to address this uncomfortable topic, this horrific evil, head-on – a movie aimed not only at raising awareness but at inspiring action – the Left curiously rallies to undermine it with partisan smears and ugly innuendo.

Oedipal rage against “Bibi” and what he represents

By Ron Jager

Since Benjamin Netanyahu’s electoral success this past November, his conservative political coalition has been challenged with a non-stop tsunami of judicial, political and mainstream media generated reports that have only one goal, it demonize and de-legitimize Netanyahu’s electoral success forcing him to abandon his role as the leader of the nation. Exposing this slanderous campaign has had negligible success in convincing the general public that as consumers of information, they are being forced fed a steady diet of conspiracy theories and fake news, chaos, all culminating in what has developed into a politics of rage.

There are ways to stop voter fraud that uses undelivered ballots

By Steve Selinger, AM THINKER

Jay Valentine makes a strong case that ballots should not be mailed out to addresses for which mail cannot be delivered (vacant lots), at which voters cannot reside (commercial or industrial addresses), or where mail cannot be accurately delivered (apartment or dorm buildings with no apartment number or dorm room number.) He recommends purifying voter rolls so that ballots will not be mailed out to addresses where mail cannot be delivered or voters cannot live. This can be done by compiling the Undeliverable Ballot Database (UBD).

France on the Verge of Chaos?

by Guy Millière, GATESTONE  •  July 11, 2023 at 5:00 am

  • The riots grew bigger. Schools and theaters were destroyed…. churches were burned to the ground; graffiti in red paint on a church in Marseilles declared: “Mohammed was the last prophet”. Bank branches were ransacked and ATMs opened with chainsaws. Slogans were shouted: “death to the police”, “death to France”, “death to the Jews!”
  • “We are Muslims,” one angry protester shouted, “if the police kill us we have the right to kill; it is written in the Koran!”

There’s no real debating with reform opponents

The conduct of protesters and their representatives in the Knesset shows that the think they are the only ones in the right and everyone else is mistaken.

By  Merav Sever, IH

You are a nice person, but you don’t really understand the judicial reform, Lt. Col. (res.) Oren Shvil told Likud lawmaker Tsega Melaku during a recent panel on the controversial legislation. I too received a similar response when I tried to explain to Svhil that the words “dictatorship” and “regime” do not describe the current situation in Israel.

Opponents of the judicial reform cannot fathom the fact that the other side has brains and are capable of thinking for themselves. In Shvil’s mind, there is no way I studied the material and came to an informed decision.<

Iran’s Plan To Drive Jews Out of ‘Palestine’

by Bassam Tawil, GATESTONE  •  July 10, 2023 at 5:00 am

  • Iran’s mullahs are seeking to create a situation where Jews no longer feel safe in their own country and are forced to leave Israel. To achieve this goal, the mullahs have instructed their Palestinian terror proxies, Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), to step up their campaign of terrorism against Israel and Jews.

MKs to vote on bill barring judges from reviewing ‘reasonableness’ of gov’t decisions

T. Belman.

“Reasonableness is a judicial test that allows courts to strike down government and administrative decisions seen as having not taken into account all the relevant considerations of a particular issue, or having not given the correct weight to those considerations — even if they do not violate any particular law or contradict other administrative rulings.”

“The Attorney General’s Office also criticized the bill, saying that it opened the door to “arbitrary” decision-making.”

No one want’s “arbitrary decisions”. But who is to decide what considerations are more important than others? The Courts or the Government?

1st of 3 Knesset floor votes due Monday afternoon, advancing bill to protect elected officials from judicial scrutiny; mass protests planned for Tuesday by anti-overhaul activists

The Knesset was set to vote Monday on a controversial bill to curtail judicial review of the “reasonableness” of elected officials’ decisions, as part of the government’s broader plan to overhaul Israel’s judiciary.

Ministers outraged at A-G: “Disgrace, there’s no enforcement”

Cabinet ministers stunned to learn only 6 indictments filed in over 500 arrests at anti-government protests.

The discussion with Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara during the weekly Cabinet meeting became heated after data was presented showing that very few indictments have been made in the ongoing anti-government protests.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir demanded the data on indictments against those who were arrested during the protests,

The attorney general forwarded the data to Deputy Superintendent Yoav Talem, Deputy Head of the Intelligence and Investigations Division in the police, and he replied: “six indictments out of 572 arrested, only for assaulting police officers.”

Judicial reform: An urgent imperative

by Martin Sherman     July 5, 2023

For months Israel has been engulfed in a tumultuous public dispute in the titanic clash between the advocates of a direly needed reform of the country’s system of law enforcement on the one hand, and its increasingly strident opponents on the other.

According to the University of Haifa’s annual index for public sector performance, the public’s level of trust in the Israeli judicial system is at the lowest level since the index was first published in 2001.—i24News, Nov. 6, 2018.

After a decade in which left-wing voters expressed a 44 percent confidence in the judiciary, their confidence has eroded since 2017 to 25 percent in 2020.Haaretz, Jun. 4, 2020.
