UN Security Council set for Gaza resolution vote as US signals support for latest draft

T. Belman. According to this article “the resolution is expected to also call for the “immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.”.  I doubt it because Israel would rightly say when the hostages are released, we will take “urgent steps “for creating the conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities.”

This will render it meaningless.

Proposal said to call for ‘creating conditions for sustainable cessation of hostilities,’ unhindered humanitarian access, immediate release of all hostages;

The United States has signaled its support for a draft resolution in its current form on the war between Israel and Hamas, with the United Nations Security Council set to hold a vote on the proposal later Friday, diplomatic sources said.

This marked the fourth time the Security Council delayed a vote this week as diplomatic efforts were being made to get the US — a veto-wielding permanent council member — on board with the resolution.

Nikki Haley: Pro-Hamas countries should take in Gazans

T. Belman. These countries want Israel to choke on the Palestinians. They see them as a fifth column that will bring Israel to her knees. This is why UNRWA was created. Its mission is to maintain them, not resettle them.

Netanyahu asked Biden, Sunak and Macron to pressure Egypt to open its borders to displaced Gazans, but was rejected outright.

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley told ABC News on Thursday that Egypt, as well as “pro-Hamas countries” such as Qatar, Iran and Turkey, should take in Palestinian Arabs who flee the war in Gaza.

Asked where Gazans who flee the fighting should go, Haley responded, “They should be going to the Rafah gate and [have] Egypt take them. But I’ve always said that what you should have is that they should go to pro-Hamas countries — Qatar, Iran, Turkey… send them there… Those are pro-Hamas countries.”

The Israel Defense Forces has killed over 2,000 Hamas terrorists since the end of a temporary ceasefire on Dec. 1, according to IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari.

Hagari’s announcement brings the total number of eliminated Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip during the current war to around 8,000. Another 1,000 Hamas terrorists were killed in Israel on Oct. 7 and 8 after the Palestinian terror group’s brutal invasion of the Jewish state. These figures do not include wounded and captured terrorists.

Hamas: Made in the U.S.A.

By

Antisemitic terror has deep, surprising roots in American soil.

After the jihadist barbarities of October 7, Israel responded with aerial bombardments of Hamas havens in Gaza, in preparation for the now-ongoing ground invasion. As the bombs fell, Hamas heavyweight Mousa Abu Marzook was asked about the elaborate network of tunnels that the organization has built under the territory it has governed since being popularly elected in 2006. It is a virtual underground city stretching over 300 miles, constructed with untold billions of dollars in foreign-aid money diverted for the purpose (not to be confused with the aid money diverted to make billionaires out of Marzook and his fellow Hamas emirs).

The other front: How the Palestinian Authority is preparing for battle – right under our noses

The scenario of the PASF (Palestinian Authority Security Forces) “turning their guns” and aiming them at the IDF forces, and/or the settlements in Judea & Samaria and those that border the Green Line, is rapidly developing into actuality. The warning signs are too numerous for us to ignore.

By Nadav Shragai, ISRAEL HAYOM    18 December 2023

Palestinian troops undergoing training/Usage under Israeli IP Law section 27a

The details of the overall situation in Judea & Samaria – Israel’s current “third front” – ostensibly appear to be rather mundane and routine. Another late-night arrest, another targeting operation, more shooting attacks on the roads, but only after you put all the small pieces of this large puzzle together do you get to see the terrible danger, the initial signs of which are just now coming to light.

There is no such thing as a demilitarized Palestine Arab state

Those who seek a Two-State Solution are urging nothing less than the creation of a determinably criminal aggressor state.

By Prof. Louis René Beres, INN   Dec 17, 2023,

Now, in the midst of Israel’s law-enforcing war against Hamas terror- criminals, we are once again hearing demands for a Palestinian state (a so-called Two-State solution). Still, even if an expanding number of presently-sovereign states would argue for immediate or incremental recognition of “Palestine,” these approvals would have no binding legal effect. The Convention on the Rights and Duties of States (1934) – the authoritative treaty defining the requirements of statehood under international law – explicitly identifies the criteria that must be satisfied. These binding standards do not include recognition.

Israel in the shadow of American decline

Hamas is a less significant existential threat than the collapse of US leadership

By David P. Goldman, ASIA TIMES    21 December 2023

Image: Twitter Screengrab

And the word of the Lord came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.

Then the Lord said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land. – Jeremiah 1:13-14

Strictly speaking, Israel’s Gaza war is not a tragedy, but rather a hideous accident. Many wars wait for years to happen until they can’t be stopped. Those are the tragedies.

This one never should have happened. Israeli intelligence had the plans for the October 7 Hamas attack a year in advance, as well as urgent warnings from lower-echelon officers just before the event. But the top military and political leadership brushed them off.

The Wake-Up Call for American Jewry

TIKVAH FUND

A few days ago, Tikvah CEO Eric Cohen sat down with Call Me Back podcast host and author Dan Senor to discuss the great awakening of American Jewry.

They explored why Jews and Israel are suddenly at the center of the civilizational challenges facing the Western world; why many American universities are no longer worthy of Jewish creativity and talent; and why now is a time to build and renew the soul-shaping civic institutions that perpetuate our Jewish, Zionist, and American values. They also discussed Tikvah’s plans and strategy for the years ahead—and why now, more than ever, Jewish ideas and Jewish leadership matter.

Qatar-funded experts tell hostages’ relatives not to criticize Doha

Peloni: This is truly sickening.

A source who advised hostages’ families said that the Richardson Center told them that ‘pressure on Qatar would be counterproductive because Qatar holds all the leverage.’

By Lahav Harkov, Jewish Insider   December 18, 2023

The Richardson Center for Global Engagement, which receives substantial funding from the Government of Qatar, advised the families of Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza not to criticize the Gulf state, which is a major financial backer of Hamas. The Richardson Center “promotes global peace and dialogue by identifying and working on areas of opportunity for engagement and citizen diplomacy with countries and communities not usually open to more formal diplomatic channels,” according to its mission statement. One of the ways it does this is to negotiate for the release of hostages, and was involved in the release of American student Otto Warmbier from North Korea and Princeton student Xiyue Wang, and worked with the family of basketball player Brittney Griner when she was imprisoned in Russia.

David Wumser: Why Calls for an Immediate Ceasefire in the Gaza War Becomes a Strategic Liability for the US

EMET –

While many in the international community view the Hamas war on Israel strictly in narrow terms, as just another Israeli-Palestinian war, this war is different. This war is all about the Iranian axis of terror, and its threat to the entire free world. For an immediate ceasefire of the war that Hamas launched on Israel with their barbaric attacks of October 7th, Iranian-backed Houthis are attacking shipping lanes in the Red Sea, cutting off a great deal of international commerce, and Iranian-backed Hezbollah has stepped up the launching missiles onto Israeli towns. Yet, calls from the international community for an immediate ceasefire are increasing. Renowned scholar, David Wurmser will be discussing the wider regional and geo-strategic ramifications of this war, and why calls for an immediate ceasefire will actually backfire against the United States, Europe, and the entire free, Western world.

Under the Nose: This is How the PA Brigades Train for the Campaign

Peloni:  It boggles the mind that while the Americans are demanding that the PA should be allowed to rule Gaza despite the fact that they are of the same ilk as the terror based, genocidal Hamas, that Isreal is not demanding removal of the terror based, genocidal PA from ruling over the lands which they already control in Judea and Samaria.  As Maj. Gen. (res.) Uzi Dayan, former deputy chief of staff and head of the National Security Council notes:

“We have pretty good control on the ground, but all the other data is worse than the situation in the envelope. There are tens of thousands of Palestinians carrying weapons, and the potential of their raid on one community or another exists at any moment…”

The Limited Times      12/14/2023

Highlights: Fatah’s growing complicity in terrorism, assassinations and arrests of many of its members, official PA standing behind their martyrs, and official death notices and military funerals for their members. Senior Fatah officials explicitly speak in favor of a massacre in Judea and Samaria as well, but the cabinet has so far refrained from dealing with the issue. The event that is now taking place before our eyes may indicate that the Oslo concept of maintaining the PA, to which Netanyahu and the defense establishment still adhere, is on the verge of breaking. The warning signs and signals are too numerous for us to ignore.

How is it possible to run a country like this? How is it possible to win a war like this?

Caroline Glick tweeted:

The government ordered the IDF to practice a scenario of overturning the PA forces and here we see that once again the General Staff refused an order. How is it possible to run a country like this? How is it possible to win a war like this?

This was in response to the following comment tweeted by Elisha Yared:

The divisional exercise held yesterday in northern Samaria and published this evening on the Jewish Voice website is nothing less than crazy!

“Solution,” said you?

Here’s what two-state solution really means. Opinion.

By Jack Engelhard, INN   19 December 2023

Jack Engelhard/Courtesy

Seems to me that if Biden and his people have their way, “the day after” will look exactly as the day before.

In other words, under the Biden Plan, the same terrorists will run Gaza, but under different names.

So, Hamas becomes PA/PLO/Fatah, and Yahya Sinwar becomes Mahmoud Abbas. If there’s a difference from one gang to the next, I’d like to know what it is.

Hamas has a choice

So, why, then, does Israel continue its operations in Gaza, despite the consequences in this area? It is simple. Hamas has not yet surrendered.

By Alan G. Futerman and Walter E. Block, ISRAEL HAYOM   Dec 19/23

Many people, the world over, are appalled by what is taking place in Gaza as a result of Israeli bombing of that territory. For example, states United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres “Amid Increasingly Dire Humanitarian Situation in Gaza, Hamas Attacks Cannot Justify Collective Punishment of Palestinian People.” According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, “Israel’s attacks on Gaza refugee camp may amount to war crimes.” Amnesty International maintains that there is “Damning evidence of war crimes as Israeli attacks wipe out entire families in Gaza.” Not to be outdone, former US president Barack Obama said this: “Already, thousands of Palestinians have been killed in the bombing of Gaza, many of them children. Hundreds of thousands have been forced from their homes. The Israeli government’s decision to cut off food, water, and electricity to a captive civilian population threatens not only to worsen a growing humanitarian crisis…” In the view Al-Jazeera: “From South Africa to Norway, the Middle East to Southeast Asia, calls for an end to the siege of Gaza are growing.”

The Israeli-Hamas War: Intelligence, Strategy, and the Day After

T. Belman. My daughter used to be an Israeli diplomat and she was posted under Amb Halevy in Brussels for three years.

I found no fault with their analysis of our failure except that they suggested our right wing government was focused on the “West Bank” and turned their backs on Gaza. While that may be true, there were many other factors which contributed to the failure.

When it came to their ideas on the war, they all felt that we would not have the time to complete the destruction of Hamas. The American timeline will prevail.

They criticized the government for not articulating what political solution we wanted to achieve for the day after. They thought this was more important that articulating what our military goal was. They also felt that we have no choice but the TSS even if it takes decades.

As the Israel-Hamas war enters its second month, the role of intelligence has figured prominently. How did Israel fail to grasp Hamas’s intentions and capabilities and to anticipate the October 7 attack? Was this a failure of imagination or were there structural and bureaucratic impediments that prevented Israel’s intelligence community from identifying the dots and connecting them? Are domestic politics overriding sound intelligence analysis to shape the Israeli government’s campaign against Hamas, its approach toward Gazan civilians, its efforts to free hostages, and its thinking on post-conflict Gaza and the West Bank? Join us as Efraim Halevy, former director of the Mossad, and Ami Ayalon, former director of Shin Bet, engage in conversation with Aaron David Miller on these and other subjects.
