If we are honest — which most of the world is not when it comes to Israel and Jews — we need to recognize that Jewish rioting in Huwara is against the law.

But if we continue being honest, we need also to recognize that the blame for those riots must fall primarily on the past 50 years of Israeli governments who have failed to provide adequate security to the Jewish residents of Samaria and Judea. And, because there is little value in blaming the dead prime ministers and defense ministers who have been at fault, the focus of blame falls on the living who can rectify their failures, including but not limited to the longest-serving Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and his Likud party that falls into lockstep behind him.

Judges and attorneys general throughout the world—I’ve served in both capacities in the U.S.—wield substantial authority. In any sound legal system, such authority is subject to clear, objective limits. That seemingly unexceptional principle might help clarify the debate roiling Israel over the country’s Supreme Court justices and attorney general, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposals to change that authority and the method of selecting justices.

A Coalition MK praised Jewish rioters who torched cars and buildings in the Arab village of Huwara in Samaria overnight, hours after a terrorist murdered two young Israeli men in Huwara.

MK Zvika Fogel (Otzma Yehudit), a retired IDF brigadier general, told Galei Yisrael radio Monday morning that he wanted to see Huwara “shuttered and burned” in response to Sunday’s attack and subsequent celebrations by local Arabs.

Israel has agreed to freeze the approval process for new housing projects in Judea and Samaria for four months, and will not normalize the status of any additional outpost communities for at least six months, the US State Department said Sunday evening.

In a statement released following an emergency summit held in Aqaba in southern Jordan Sunday, the State Department said that both sides had agreed to meet again in Sharm el Sheikh on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt next month to continue efforts to calm regional tensions.

The IDF is reducing its counterterrorism activity in Judea and Samaria following the emergency summit which was held in Aqaba, Jordan today between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, Yediot Aharonot military correspondent Yossi Yehoshua reported.

A senior security official said: ”We are giving it a chance. We will only act in the face of ticking bombs or an urgent operational need.”
