On Yom HaAtzmaut, Israel’s Struggle for Independence Continues

by Daniel Greenfield May 4, 2022

Without the sacrifices made to preserve freedom, there could be no independence. And without independence, those sacrifices have no meaning. And so Israel remembers its fallen in the Yom HaZikaron, Memorial Day. And then on the next day it remembers their achievement, a free and independent nation in Yom HaAtzmaut, Independence Day.

A day after Israel’s declaration of independence on May 14, 1948, it was fighting for its survival against local Islamist militias, including the Mufti of Jerusalem’s, Jaysh al-Jihad al-Muqaddas, along with the armies of 7 Arab nations, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Syria and Yemen. On the Muslim side was the Arab Legion, at the time considered to be the best army in the region, under the British General Glubb, whose son would later convert to Islam, and become involved with terrorist groups.

Abbas Threatens to Cut Ties to Israel

Why the PA leader is desperate to look tough on the Jewish state.

By Hugh Fitzgerald, FPM  May 5/22

Is it every year, or every other year, that President-For-Life of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas threatens to end all ties to Israel? Sometimes he says he’s done it, but nothing actually changes. Sometimes he says he’s going to do it, and then doesn’t. Sometimes he says he’s waiting for a meeting of the PA leadership to discuss it, then cancels the meeting. A report on the latest farcical threat by the angry rais in Ramallah is here: “Bennett: UN must stop serving terrorists’ agenda,” by Lahav Harkov and Khaled Abu Toameh, Jerusalem Post, April 22, 2022:

DeSantis Single-Handedly Turns Tide in Culture War – Execs Terrified They’ll Become the ‘Next Disney’

According to a Sunday report from the Wall Street Journal, American CEOs heard that message loud and clear.

In recent years, Disney has fully inserted itself into politics to the point of blacklisting conservatives and condemning various bills that don’t support a left-wing, pro-abortion, LGBTQ-affirming agenda.

When Disney promoted left-wing propaganda, claiming the recently passed “Parental Rights in Education Bill” was actually a bigoted, anti-LGBT “Don’t Say Gay bill,” DeSantis had finally had enough.

How Could Russia-Israel Controversy over Ukraine Affect Israel’s Operations in Syria?

With new tensions between Israel and Russia over the conflict in Ukraine, Israel might not enjoy as much freedom to operate against Syria. Here are the different scenarios.

Israel and Russia have had an amicable understanding regarding Syria since Moscow intervened in the Syrian civil war in 2015. Under former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, that relationship was important and was managed in a complex and cautious way.

That does not mean Netanyahu’s management of the Russia issue always worked; there was criticism by Moscow of Israeli actions in Syria, but the relations continued nonetheless.

About Yom Hazikaron (Remembrance Day)

By David Horowitz, Editor of the Times of Israel

Defense Minister Moshe Dayan at the Temple Mount, June 7, 1967 (Ilan Bruner/GPO)

In an urgent, vital and plaintive speech Tuesday night, delivered in front of the Western Wall at the start of Israel’s annual ceremonies for fallen soldiers and victims of terrorism, President Isaac Herzog reminded the watching, mourning nation that those of “our sons and daughters” who have fallen in the defense of our glorious reborn nation, “fought together and fell together.

“They did not ask, nor did anyone ask them, who was right-wing and who was left-wing; who was religious, who was secular; who was Jewish and who was not Jewish,” he went on. “They fell as Israelis, defending Israel. In cemeteries, arguments fall silent…”

An Independence Day question: Why do Arabs riot on the Temple Mount?

This is not about a failed “status quo“ but surrendering to mob violence.

By Moshe Dann, jns

Arab riots on the Temple Mount in opposition to any Jewish presence on the Jewish people’s most holy site have exposed what the Arab-Israeli conflict is all about. It’s not about the lack of a Palestinian state or Israeli concessions to the PLO, Hamas or other terrorist organizations. It’s about what makes the Temple Mount a holy place and who is the legitimate sovereign power over the entirety of the homeland of the Jewish people.

Israel Needs a Statesman – Now

By Guy Millière, GATESTONE

Since June 2021, for the first time in 12 years, Israel seems to have a weak prime minister, Naftali Bennett. Israel needs its strong tribe status. Israel needs a statesman. Now. >

  • The years before 2021 had brought relative calm and improvements. The United States had cut much of its funding for the Palestinian Authority, which had been used for terrorism. As a result, terrorism had substantially decreased. When the US pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal and drastically sanctioned Iran, the mullahs and their Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had less money to finance and arm Hamas. ISIS was crushed. A rapprochement began between Israel and the Arab world and led to the Abraham Accords, signed between the United States, Israel, and five Muslim countries – the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, Kosovo and Sudan. For the first time in decades in the Middle East, “peace, security and prosperity” held sway.

Turkey: NATO’s Pro-Putin Ally •

by Burak Bekdil, GATESTONE

  • Western leaders shrugged it off when, in 2016, Erdo?an said in plain language that Turkey did not need to join the European Union “at all costs” and could instead become part of a security bloc dominated by China, Russia and Central Asian nations.
  • Erdo?an’s popularity, since he came to power in 2002, has worked as a self-poisoning instrument in the Turkish society, increasingly fuelling anti-Western sentiment, particularly anti-Americanism.

China Increases Support For Russia

DEEP STATE TRIBUNAL

Since the start of Russia’s invasion, many countries all over the world hoped that China would condemn the decision, instead China has been increasing its rhetorical support for Russia.

A representative from the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Zhao Lijian, stated that current China-Russia relations are a great success because they rose above the political and military trends that had been observed during the Cold War. He stated that one of the reasons this partnership is so effortless is because both states are intent on creating a new example of international relations.

2000 MULES EQUAL THE CRIME OF THE CENTURY

Tierney’s REAL News (5/3/22)

I saw Dinesh’s movie “2000 Mules” last night. It provides massive evidence and concrete verifiable proof (digital & video) that the election was rigged. An informant from Arizona also detailed how she participated in the scheme and explained how it worked.

At the conclusion of the movie, two well-respected Salem radio hosts – Larry Elder & Dennis Prager – who have both vehemently DENIED voter fraud up to this point – were totally convinced that America was robbed – and ANGERED that they had been played. They were finally awake! The theater applauded! Read more…

Support for the Likud continues to rise, according to a new poll released Tuesday, with the party projected to win 36 seats if new elections were held today.

The poll, conducted by Rafi Smith’s Smith Research agency, was published by Galey Israel radio Tuesday morning.

According to the poll, if new elections were held today, the Likud would remain the largest faction in the Knesset, rising from the 30 seats it won in 2021 to 36 seats. That represents a two-seat increase over the previous Smith poll, conducted last December.

Why Do Muslim ‘Victims’ Celebrate the Victimization of Others?

The disturbing tale of how Palestinians find “inspiration”.

By Raymond Ibrahim, FPM    Apr 3/22

Speaking on the first day of Ramadan, April 1, 2022, Mahmoud al-Habbash, the Supreme Sharia Judge of the Palestinian Authority, extolled the jihads waged by the prophet of Islam, Muhammad, during Ramadan:

How was this month [of Ramadan] in the life of Prophet [Muhammad]? … Did the Prophet spend Ramadan in calmness, serenity, laziness, and sleepiness? Far be it from him… The Prophet entered the great Battle of Badr [624] during Ramadan… Also in the month of Ramadan, in the 8th year of the Hijra [629-630], the Prophet and the Muslims conquered Mecca…. Ramadan is … a month of Jihad, conquest, and victory.

The long and winding road to Riyadh

Israel can convince the Americans that a unified Sunni Arab front against the Iranian threat is of greater urgency than continued cooperation with the US on efforts to transform the region into a democratic paradise.

 By  Oded Granot, ISRAEL HAYOM

President Isaac Herzog recently said his wish would be to travel to Riyadh in the future. While certainly understandable, that future is not right around the corner. Herzog himself said in an interview with Israel Hayom that a number of external conditions would need to exist before he could take off for Saudi Arabia. Contrary to popular opinion, though, Israel is also capable of shortening this timeframe.

Saudi Arabia is not an official partner to the Abraham Accords, but these normalization agreements would not have been signed without Riyadh’s encouragement and approval. Israeli planes cross Saudi airspace on their way to the United Arab Emirates, senior Saudi officials no longer boycott their Israeli counterparts at international meetings, and the 36-year-old Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman recently said in an interview with The Atlantic that “We do not view Israel as an enemy, but rather as a potential ally in the many interests that we can pursue together ….”

Moscow, under fire for Hitler comments, says Israel backing ‘neo-Nazis’ in Ukraine

Russia calls comments by Lapid ‘anti-historical,’ defends Lavrov’s suggestion the Nazi leader had Jewish blood, claiming some Jews in Holocaust did ‘absolutely monstrous deeds’

Russia’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that Israel supports the “neo-Nazi regime” in Ukraine, as tensions between Moscow and Jerusalem ratcheted up following Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s incendiary remarks on the Holocaust earlier this week.

In a statement on Tuesday, Russia accused Foreign Minister Yair Lapid of making “anti-historical statements” that “largely explain why the current Israeli government supports the neo-Nazi regime in Kyiv.”

Like Amichai Chikli, I too am a proud Yamina defector

I was sure Bennett would keep his promise not to go with the left and Arabs and told my friends to vote Yamina.

Rabbi Prof. Dov Fischer

Before the most recent Israel national elections, I was asked by many of my readers, and by others who regard my judgment as worthwhile, how I recommend they vote. I endorsed Yamina. This was my thinking:

1. The election might have ended up in yet another stalemate. However, if a government would be formed, the lead government partner probably would have been Likud, and Binyamin Netanyahu probably would have emerged as prime minister.

AIPAC Reverses Position, Will Support Liz Cheney Despite her Anti-Trump Stance

T. Belman. While I appreciate her pro-Israel sentiments, they are of little value when at the same time she actively opposed Trump. The last thing we want is for her to be reelected so that she can continue her vendetta against Trump in his next Administration.  Disloyalty has a price. No good can come of this.

Thus AIPAC,  by this act, is undermining the most pro-Israel president ever.

By David Israel, JEWISH PRESS

On April 29, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) tweeted that it was proud to support Congresswoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyoming) because “we deeply appreciate her strong and unwavering support for the US-Israel relationship during her entire career in public service.” The tweet was a 180-degree reversal of the group’s previous stance that effectively shunned the congresswoman despite her fervent support for the Jewish State.
