Of course, pushing Lavrov hard was a (not so subtle) attempt to get him to make a mistake. That’s what the western media has come to regard as good journalism. It is preposterous and quite disrespectful that a reporter would challenge an answer, or even argue with their interviewee. True reporting is finding out the facts and then reporting them, in an honest, unbiased way, not trying to make a name for yourself by badgering someone into misspeaking. Of course, I guess that all depends on whether or not they like the person that they are interviewing. Someone once said of the mainstream media, “When interviewing a Republican, all reporters want to be Bob Woodward, but when it’s a Democrat, all reporters are like Monica Lewinski.”
Very tough interview in which Lavrov gave a bit better than he got I believe. The purpose of this overly harsh exchange was to push Lavrov hard and hope he over reacted or was caught off guard. Instead, I think he was very effective in drawing attention to the myopic perspective of the West in ignoring the state of civil war in Ukraine that the West caused, funded, armed and ignored. Of course, now the West wishes to ignore all of this, even as it has culminated in the Russian invasion as a consequence to the West’s intransigence to resolve the brutal hardships placed upon the citizens of the Dumbas.
