With a ceasefire in place in Gaza, there are many new opportunities arising in the region. While Israel was focused on Gaza, it was difficult for Israel to achieve much outside of the conflict. This put things like the Abraham Accords on ice. It also meant it was hard for Washington to advance cooperation initiatives. Now things are changing. The US has brought Kazakhstan into the Abraham Accords as US President Donald Trump met with leaders of Central Asian countries. The US is also working on deals in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Egypt Has a New Proposal
Peloni: Hamas has already committed to being disarmed and is now making dramatic attempts to resist such an outcome even as they have breached the ceasefire without impunity or further costs. As is true with their delays of handing over the Hostages, there is no cost for Hamas violations to the ceasefire. The cutoff force of Hamas inside the Yellow Line presents an important opportunity to exact a cost upon Hamas, and if it is agreed that Hamas will instead reveal its exhaustive tunnel system under Raffah, it would be necessary that Hamas be trusted to reveal all the tunnels that exist. Personally, I would argue to let the Hamas combatants inside the Yellow Line surrender themselves to Israel or be destroyed one way or another. Violations of ceasefires should bear a cost, and these combatants should be removed from future confrontations one way or another.

What is to be done with the estimated 200 Hamas fighters now behind the Yellow Line? Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has said they should not be allowed to give up their weapons and move to the western side of that line, where Hamas still rules. He fears that once in that part of Gaza still under the control of Hamas, they will simply be handed new weapons by the terror group. He worries that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, under terrific pressure from the Americans, will submit and allow those 200 Hamas combatants to leave the IDF-controlled area, unharmed, after surrendering their weapons, and then move to the Hamas-controlled area in western Gaza, be re-armed, and made ready to again fight the Zionist enemy.

Islamic terrorism is the outcry of the oppressed, apologists tell us. If the perpetrators only had access to more advanced weapons, they wouldn’t feel the need to massacre civilians with everything from machetes to rockets. Terrorism is a local phenomenon, not a global one.
Jihadist terrorism only grabs our attention when it occurs on a large scale, like 9/11 or Oct 7, and then its allies, apologists and appeasers quickly redirect attention by indicting the response to the attacks as ‘oppression’, faking atrocities, complaining about ‘Islamophobia’ and a police state, and quibbling over legalisms until they have successfully obscured the original atrocity.

That lingering stench of fraud from Tuesday’s election
Peloni: There is nothing so enslaving in a free society than the toleration of fraud within the very process which makes the choices responsible for defining that society. This is and always was the mark of reform in the US which would decide if the corruption in Washington was surmountable or if it was in fact too well established to be irradicated. US midterms are one year away, and there is still no visible activity taking place which might raise expectations that fraud might play less of a role than has been described in recent US elections.

Austria’s intelligence agency has uncovered a Hamas-linked weapons cache in the capital, Vienna, the government announced on Thursday. Authorities believe the cache was intended for “possible terrorist attacks in Europe.” It included five handguns and 10 magazines.

Peloni: The failure to name the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist entity has had many devastating consequences over the years, and yet following earlier claims that an executive order supporting such a classification have gone without any further comment over the past months as we stand at about 10months into Trump’s current term.
