DOHA, Oct 11 (Reuters) – Former Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal called for protests across the Muslim world on Friday in support of the Palestinians and for the peoples of neighbouring countries to join the fight against Israel.

“[We must] head to the squares and streets of the Arab and Islamic world on Friday,” Meshaal, who currently heads Hamas’s diaspora office, said in a recorded statement sent to Reuters.

Meshaal, who is based in Qatar, said the governments and peoples of Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt have a bigger duty to support the Palestinians.

Will Israel Do What it Takes to Secure Peace?

Moral reflections on Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Dresden – and Gaza.

The joint aerial bombing by the British and the United States of Dresden, Germany between February 12-15, 1945, killed up to 25,000 people. They were mostly civilians. The bombings had a devastating effect on Hitler’s Germany and played a key role in Germany’s surrender in the Second World War on May 8, 1945.

On August 6th and 9th of that same year, the United States of America detonated two atomic bombs over the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The explosions killed between 129, 000 and 226,000 people. Less than a month later, the Japanese surrendered, thereby ending World War II and Japanese imperialism.

Putin Offers Muted Response to Attack on Israel. That Speaks Volumes.

T. Belman.  This is a strange article coming from the NYT.  It seeks to explain how the Ukraine War has affected Russia- Israel relations.

Vladimir Putin has long projected friendly ties to Israel. But his silence since Saturday’s assault illustrates how the war in Ukraine has strained the relationship between the two countries.

By

President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia has long cast himself as a friend of Israel and the Jewish people.

He helped establish visa-free travel between Russia and Israel in 2008, presided over the construction of a sprawling Moscow Jewish Museum in 2012 and, side by side with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem in 2020, unveiled a memorial to the victims of Nazi Germany’s siege of Leningrad.

Defense Minister Yoav Galant toured the Gaza envelope today (Tuesday) and arrived at the headquarters in the Re’im area, where he held a situational assessment with Defense Ministry director-general Major General Eyal Zamir, the commander of the Southern Command Brigadier General Yaron Finkelman, and other commanders in the region.

Later, the Defense Minister visited Kibbuts Be’eri and met with the soldiers in the field, who he praised for their actions in defending Israel and its citizens.

Joint Statement on Israel

T. Belman. I hate this statement. Anyone know why?

It does nothing more than condemn the violence and ask for it to stop. True, it says Israel has the right to defend itself. But it always says that as it p-ushesw for a ceasefire. It also says “All of us recognize the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people, and support equal measures of justice and freedom for Israelis and Palestinians alike.” . There’s the rub. They are still backing the Palestinian cause.

Today, the leaders of France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States of America released the following joint statement following their call:

Today, we — President Macron of France, Chancellor Scholz of Germany, Prime Minister Meloni of Italy, Prime Minister Sunak of the United Kingdom, and President Biden of the United States — express our steadfast and united support to the State of Israel, and our unequivocal condemnation of Hamas and its appalling acts of terrorism.

Israel Goes on Offensive Against Hamas as U.S. Warns Hezbollah Not to Engage

Hamas threatens to execute hostages in response to Israeli bombardment of civilians

By Dion Nissenbaum,  Stephen Kalin, , Dov Lieber, Nancy A. Youssef, WSJ

ALONG THE ISRAEL-GAZA BORDER—Israel prepared for what could be an extended ground assault in the Gaza Strip, and the Pentagon warned Iran and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah to “think twice” before joining the conflict and said it was prepared to come to Israel’s defense.

Dozens of tanks and hundreds of Israeli soldiers fanned out along the Gaza Strip border Monday, while Hamas threatened to execute Israeli hostages it seized some 48 hours earlier during a devastating invasion.

Barbaric attacks by Hamas undermine sparse support for Palestinians

The Washington Times  Monday, October 9, 2023

The savage attacks and atrocities by Hamas against Israelis have drastically weakened any support in the U.S. for the Palestinian cause, analysts and lawmakers said.

The parading of victims’ corpses and slaughter of unarmed Israeli families, much of the carnage shown on social media, make it virtually impossible for the U.S. to provide further support for Palestinians, who are governed by Hamas in Gaza. Even before the attacks, the State Department labeled Hamas as a terrorist group.

Russia cites ‘concern’ but does not condemn Hamas attack on Israel

T. Belman. My daughter sides with the West in the Ukraine War. She hates the fact that I side with Russia. I said I blame the West for this attack on Israel because of its support for disengagement, Oslo, PA and the TSS. She would hear none of it and blamed Russia’s complicity and gave me this article as evidence.

Everyone can share the blame but some more than others. No one compares to the harm done Israel by the Wests’s support for the TSS.   Bibi shares blame for mowing the lawn. Israeli intelligence shares blame. The IDF is blameworthy because it didn’t set up a major army base near Sderot and another near the Lebanon border. And let’s not forget the Israeli left of which she is a part, that supported Oslo, the disengagement and the TSS.

As for the WaPo article, what else would you exect?

Russia has labeled opposition figures such as Alexei Navalny as “terrorists” and, since invading its neighbor, the Kremlin routinely denounces defensive Ukrainian strikes as “terrorist attacks.”<

But after Hamas militants carried out a brutal surprise attack in which hundreds of Israeli civilians were killed or kidnapped, Russia stopped short of condemning the Palestinian militant group, referring instead to what happened as “a spiral of violence” and pointing fingers at the West.

Biden Admin’s Lies About Aid to Gaza Are Totally Unbelievable

By Spencer Brown, TOWNHALL | October 09, 2023 12:00 PM

Kiyoshi Ota/Pool Photo via AP
White House aides spent the weekend crying about “misinformation” from those critical of the Biden administration’s decision to unfreeze $6 billion for Iran — the financial and often strategic backer of Hamas and other anti-Israel terrorist organizations — as well as seeking to dispel talk that “aid” money Biden sent to Gaza boosted Hamas terrorists. A ruthless response is absolutely legitimate

I can only add my voice of responsibility to confer legitimacy to as ruthless a military response as Israel can muster. Op-ed.

OCT 9/23

[…]
This list already is too much, but my point is that I am not a tummler but speak with authority, responsibility, and am recognized as an expert in legal ethics, winner of the American Jurisprudence Award in Legal Ethics.

[…]

Therefore I submit my voice, as the Holy Season of Judaism has come to a conclusion in Exile, to validate ethically as ruthless a military response as Israel can muster:

1. It is imperative, if Israel is capable of doing so, that it exterminate Hamas. Again: exterminate. Leave nothing behind of Hamas.
