Mike Pompeo warns: Corrupt PA should not be part of Saudi normalization

The Palestinian Authority is corrupt, the former US secretary of state warns in The Hill with Sander Gerber; the Saudis should support their fellow Muslims through a new NGO that bypasses the PA and the UN

By Daniel Edelson, YNET NEWS

Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo issued a warning against the involvement of the Palestinian Authority (PA) in any potential Saudi-Israeli normalization agreement. The Trump administration official and Sander Gerber, the chief executive of Hudson Bay Capital Management, sounded the alarm in a recent opinion column for The Hill.

Blinken: Palestinian issue will be part of Saudi normalization deal

T. Belman. There will be no normalization until Jordan is recognized as the Palestinian state. That is the two state solution that MBS wants. Pompeo is right to call for bypassing the PA and the UN in the YNET article above.  That is what is going down.

Secretary of State says the Saudis have told the Americans that solving the Palestinian Arab issue is an important part of any normalization deal with Israel.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday gave an interview to the Pod Save the World podcast with Tommy Vietor and Ben Rhodes, and commented on the efforts to achieve a normalization agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Blinken made clear that normalization “cannot be a substitute for Israel and the Palestinians resolving their differences and having a much better future for Palestinians. And in our judgment, of course, that must – needs to involve a two-state solution.”

War, Money, and America’s Future

Why is the uniparty risking a war we’re so ill-prepared to fight?

By Douglas Macgregor, AMER CONSERVATIVE

When Richard Nixon lost the election to John F. Kennedy, Nixon told supporters, “I know Jack Kennedy. He’s a patriot.” Nixon knew that the nation would be safe in President Kennedy’s hands.

Most Americans do not have the same confidence in President Biden. In April 2023, fewer than four in ten U.S. adults (37 percent) said they approved of Joe Biden’s job performance as president, with six in ten saying they disapproved. By a 2-to-1 margin, American voters now believe controlling the U.S. border is more important than helping Ukraine fight Russia. For the first time in 30 years, the U.S. Government’s interest payments on the sovereign debt equal defense spending.

Overhaul hearing – bitter fight for quasi-constitutional primacy

While appearing to defend their oversight authority, president and other judges don’t seem certain that damage posed by reasonableness legislation can justify annulling a Basic Law

A legal drama of the highest order unfolded in the High Court of Justice on Tuesday, as arguments that cut to the core of Israel’s constitutional character were debated by all 15 justices of the court and attorneys for and against the government’s reasonableness limitation law.

Fuming at reported weapons transfer to PA, far-right ministers threaten Netanyahu

Smotrich calls emergency meeting of Religious Zionism party; Ben Gvir calls on PM to publicly disavow reports or ‘face consequences’; defense minister says no arms were transferred

Far-right ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir railed angrily at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday over reports that the government approved the transfer of a shipment of armored vehicles and weapons from the United States to the Palestinian Authority.

Both ministers claimed that the move was made without their knowledge and accused Netanyahu of plotting to lay the foundations for an alternative government with National Unity party leader Benny Gantz.

Everything You Need to Know About yesterday’s Supreme Court vs. Netanyahu Government Drama – and What’s at Stake for Israel

T. Belman. This is a good synopsis but it misses the elephant in the room. I explain in my addendum at the bottom of this article.

This week, for the first time ever, Israel’s entire Supreme Court of 15 justices is hearing petitions challenging a key judicial coup law passed by the Netanyahu government. What does the new law say? Who is contesting it, and why? What are the repercussions of this dramatic confrontation?

By Allison Kaplan Sommer, HAARETZ

No matter the result, September 12, 2023 will be remembered as a historic day for Israeli democracy – and possibly the beginning of a constitutional crisis, or worse.

Martin Indyk is shocked to learn Abbas is an antisemite. WHAT??

Martin Indyk is shocked by his friend, Mahmoud Abbas. So are we – by him.

By Barry Shaw, Israel Institute for Strategic Studies.

Former US diplomat, Martin Indyk, who for decades promoted Palestinian advancement over Israeli sovereignty, is shocked by the recent anti-Semitic remarks of his dear friend. Mahmoud Abbas.

Indyk tweeted, “I have been despairing about how to respond to Abu Mazen’s profoundly anti-Semitic diatribe. How could someone who has treated me as a personal friend for three decades at the same time harbor such hateful views of my people?”

The 1993 Oslo Accord dismissed the writing on the wall

T. Belman. Oslo didn’t happen out of the blue. In my article Since when did the Palestinians become entitled to a state, I traced its origin’s back to the Roger’s Plan of  1969. And remember too, that Pres Reagan saved Arafat and his band of terrorists by transporting them from Beirut to Tunisia for safe keeping until an opportunity presented itself to then transport them to Israel.

The Oslo Accord assessed the Palestinian Arab issue via Western lenses, sacrificing Mid-East reality on the altar of wishful thinking.

Oslo Accord’s writing on the wall

In January 1979, President Carter facilitated the Ayatollahs’ rise to power in Iran, assuming that they would be “preoccupied with tractors, not with tanks.”

In September 1993, Prime Minister Rabin embraced the Oslo Accord, assuming that Arafat would be “preoccupied with domestic issues of the newly-established Palestinian Authority, not with terrorism.”

The protest movement wants Israel to be a democracy, without its being a Jewish state. That will never go over.

The anti Judicial Reform protest movement is doomed to failure

By Avi Abelow, INN  12.9.23

As Israel’s Supreme Court is in the process of illegally transforming Israel’s Declaration of Independence into Israel’s de facto constitution, as declared in a recent article by former Chief Justice Aaron Barak, I want to share the following story and thoughts.<
>
I just returned from a meeting where the CEO brought up the insane and depressing times we are living in. The CEO is a secular Israeli Jew, and he said to me “in our office we have secular empolyees, haredi employees, national- religious employees and we all get along. But outside we are being told that we are divided. It is so depressing.”

Malice Aforethought on the COVID-19 Pandemic:

“This is a global coup d’etat and intentional mass murder.”

By Dr. Mike Yeadon, GLOBAL RESEARCH 11.9.23

I find that attempting to put all the information together in such a way as to allow for the whole even to be benign or at least not wholly malevolent is impossible. That’s because, as you’ve no doubt heard me say, I believe it is malevolent!

I too struggled early on, arguing “surely they must have known this!?” Etc.

Once I allowed for the possibility that all the bad things were intentional, I find all the rest falls into place. Obviously that alone doesn’t prove that it was intentional.

Public Emergency v Constitution

T. Belman.  As I recall Aharon Barak refused to diminish rights in the case of an emergency. He argued all the more reason to protect rights, as I recall.

CROSSROADS WITH JOSH PHILLIPS

It was a day of tragedy 22 years ago on Sept. 11; 2,977 people were killed, and 3,000 children were left without parents. Some of the best people in the nation—first responders—lost their lives trying to save the lives of others. And in the wars that followed, America lost some of its finest young men and women. But something else happened on 9/11. Americans were forced to surrender some of their basic rights. Facing the threat of terror attacks, and amid the 2001 anthrax attacks, President George Bush passed the USA PATRIOT Act, also known as the “Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001.” The PATRIOT Act raised the question of whether Americans should sacrifice their constitutional rights in exchange for safety. And now, there’s a broader social debate on whether an emergency order can override the rights of Americans under the Constitution.

Ben-Gvir: ‘Otzma Yehudit will not support negotiations’

T. Belman.  Netanyahu has already caved. No surprise there. This fight is not about democracy. It is a fight over values. Do we want the High Court to continue to impose its liberal values or do we want the Knesset to have the say over what values are important to the Jewish state. There is no way that the left will concede on its liberal values so it must be forced to.

Minister Ben-Gvir declared that his party would not support the renewed negotiations on the judicial reform at the President’s house.

  Sep 11, 2023,

Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir today (Monday) criticized the resumption of talks at the President’s Residence and made it clear that Otzma Yehudit would not support the move.

“I am in favor of negotiations, but against surrender,” clarified Minister Ben-Gvir and explained that “the reform is important for the State of Israel, it will balance the three authorities – the legislative, executive and judicial branches. Surrender in the President’s House means humiliating more than half of the people.”

According to him, “Surrender in the President’s Residence means a violation of right-wing values. Otzma Yehudit will not support this. I call on my friends, the heads of the coalition, make your voice heard, let’s go against the surrender.”

Kissinger Dreaded All-Out Israeli Victory in Yom Kippur War

T. Belman. Kissinger famously said at the time. he wanted Israel to suffer a bloody nose so she would be more amenable.

This article Yom Kippur War: The surprise belongs to NSA’s Jew Room. explains that part of the US knew there would be an attack and prevented Israel from hearing about it.

Then-U.S. secretary of state feared too much winning would make Israel harder to influence.

BY COLUM LYNCH, FOREIGN POLICY | AUGUST 9, 2019,

For Henry Kissinger, the prospect of an Israeli defeat during the 1973 Arab-Israeli War was always unthinkable. A victory by a Soviet-armed Arab coalition against a U.S.-armed Israel would shatter Washington’s strategic advantage in the Middle East and send the message to other Cold War clients that they “need to rely on the Soviet Union,” the then-U.S. secretary of state told his staff.

Nixon, Golda, and His Finest Hour

BY HUGH FITZGERALD, JIHAD WATCH SEPT 9, 2023

In the just-released movie about Golda Meir and her role as Israeli Prime Minister prior to, and during, the surprise attack launched by Egypt and Syria on the Jewish state in 1973, President Richard Nixon appears only in one brief scene. But Nixon was critical to Israel’s victory in the Yom Kippur war, by sending 567 planeloads of weapons and ammunition to the IDF when it had run catastrophically low on both.
