American Jewry’s dangerous intervention in an Israeli culture war

U.S. organizations throwing in with the opposition to judicial reform aren’t defending democracy. Rather, they are treating the majority of Israeli Jews with contempt.

By JONATHAN S. TOBIN, JNS   26.7.23

For American Jewish liberals and the legacy organizations they dominate, the impulse to take sides in a debate that is polarizing Israeli politics was irresistible. So, it was unsurprising, if disappointing, to see with what eagerness they weighed in on this week’s Knesset vote on the first part of the judicial reform package put forward by the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

YITZCHAK RABIN knew that Israel’s SC endangers lives

Currently, the history books tell us that former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin is a hero of peace. It is true that he approved and signed the Oslo peace process with the arch-terrorist Yassar Arafat and his PLO terror group, even though Israeli law forbid all talks with that terror organization.

Biden Is Plotting a Deal with Moscow over Ukraine

T. Belman. This meeting took place in April. We heard nothing about it. Meanwhile tens of thousands of people have been killed. Why wait til the end of the year? Why didn’t Col Macgregor hear of it? Makes no sense.

by Con Coughlin, GATESTONE  •  July 26, 2023 at 5:00 am

  • One of the main reasons Nato is proving to be so reluctant to provide Ukraine with a clear timeframe for membership is the stiff opposition the proposal has received from the Biden administration.
  • In public, US President Joe Biden is keen to give the impression that he is fully committed to backing Ukraine’s battle for survival. But it is a different story behind-the-scenes, where Biden and his senior officials are more interested in ending the war in good time for next year’s US presidential election contest.

What Now? The day after the first judicial reform bill passed

Now, this is a super important, comprehensive explanation on the whole situation in Israel with regards to the judicial reform, the vote that passed and the whole protest movement.

I was quoted in an article that appeared on the front page of the New York Times.

Only one sentence of mine was quoted, from a full 10 minute interview, but I was still pleasantly surprised to see them include that quote of mine. I was just sad that they left out the full explanation I gave explaining the quote that they used.

Haredi recruitment

The IDF needs more haredi soldiers, but not because of the “sharing the burden” accusation leveled at them by protesters.

26.7.32

It is vital for more young haredi men to join the IDF. The reason has nothing to do with the importance of learning Torah as compared to the importance of serving in the IDF and nothing to do with the protesters’ accusation that they are not “sharng the burden” in defending the country. It has to do with the sterling qualities and unswerving loyalty to the Jewish people of haredi young men.

There should be no question that Torah study is one of the most basic values in Judaism and certainly should be protected and encouraged in a Jewish state for whoever wishes learn Torah full time, there is no question that our winning in battle is based as much on Torah learning as it is on tanks and bullets, but there must be a good number of sincerely G-d-fearing haredi young men who do not have what it takes to learn Torah full time for more than a few years after high school.

Trump’s Detractors, Lacking Confidence in the Voters, Turn to Prosecutors

T. Belman. As I recall, Conrad Black was a victim himself of judicial overreach and Trump came to his aid.

A vast canvas of confected legal harassment and monstrous defamation is being assembled and discharged against the 45th president.

By CONRAD BLACK, THE SUN     Monday, July 24,

The Trump-haters are now somnambulating toward the cliff. There is not and never was any serious argument against President Trump’s right to seek the presidency again except for two: proper people didn’t like him and he was going to overturn a bipartisan system in which many were very comfortable.

Behind these two objections, and neither can be argued very convincingly, a vast canvas of confected legal harassment and monstrous defamation has been assembled and discharged. Finally, all that is left is the prayerful hope that the American prosecutocracy can bring him down; the voters be damned.

Can Israel’s Supreme Court Disqualify the Law Eliminating Reasonableness?

Hours after the government approved the first step in its efforts to weaken the judiciary, at least three petitions asking the Supreme Court to nullify it were filed. Will the top court override the ‘reasonableness bill’? Experts are divided.

After seven months of discussion, arguments and fiery mass protests over the Netanyahu government’s radical package of legislation that will transform Israeli democracy, the first step was finally taken on Monday.

With the opposition boycotting the decisive vote in protest, the government approved legislation that amends the Basic Law on the Judiciary by eliminating what is known as the “reasonableness standard.”

IT’S A PLANNED COUP

While most of the establishment media is reporting the public protest movement in Israel as an anti-judicial reform protest, a recently revealed video from 2020 proves otherwise.

Understand, we all want peace and unity within the Jewish people. But that can’t be achieved artificially by appeasing a side led by leaders feeding a public messages of hate and lies.

The Middle East’s Chinese-American balancing act: Where does it leave Israel?

T. Belman. I maintain my support for Bibi meeting with Xi. It is time for the US to negotiate a new deal with Israel in which Israel gets something tangible from the US such as a US commitment to stay out of Israel’s internal affairs and for the US to stop backing the Palestinian cause. Included should be a commitment to protect Israel form the UN and the ICC.  I call the new deal, reciprocity. If  the US demands loyalty, Israel should get the same in return.  Now that the Gulf States are gravitating to China, the US should move away from the Arabs and align with Israel. Such a realignment will influence the Arabs to join them. The new deal should be a much better deal for Israel than the current deal is.

by Dr. Eric R. Mandel, MEPIN

When I speak to members of the US Congress on both sides of the aisle, they agree upon very few things. However, one common concern is China’s threat to American security and economic interests. These include stealing of intellectual property, forced technology transfers, unfair trade practices, cyber espionage, development of advanced weapons systems, human rights abuses, and integration into key US allies’ civilian infrastructure.

The Achilles Heel of Mail-In Ballot Fraud

By Jay Valentine, AM THINKER

The difference between the Republican ballot operation and that of the leftists is that the leftists manufacture ballots, whereas Republicans only collect them.

Elections are for big stakes.  Pretty much everything is political, and thus, who controls the Legislature gets the goodies.

If you are a government pro, you live or die according to whether your team is in power.  You do what the pros do — you make sure you control your food source.

The left have screwed things up. Time to give the right a chance.

By Ted Belman

Benny Begin, the son of the late Menachem Begin and a former Likud Minister, had this to say to Likud after the passing of a law eliminating the reasonableness law:

“50 years have passed since I joined the Likud, a liberal national movement that fosters the rights of the Jewish people and promotes the realization of human rights,”

“Today the Likud abandons human and civil liberties for the sake of control without limitations and without restraints. In doing so, it becomes a nationalist, predatory and destructive party.”

British complicity in the German Holocaust

By Mordechai Ben-Menachem 9 Av 5783 (7 July 2023)

For Britain, the German Holocaust that would begin in 1933 actually began much earlier.  The precise date is open for debate.

Britain’s role in the Holocaust was active and intense, before Germany and ended afterwards, though less “productive” numerically.

Britain was “the backstop” to Germany’s team.  Germany was the perpetrator. But Britain was prime enabler, while no slouch in their own mass killing machine.

PM Netanyahu: Opposition did not agree to a single proposal to compromise

‘Fulfilling the will of the voters is absolutely not the end of democracy, but the essence of democracy,’ PM Netanyahu says.

24.7.23

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday evening addressed the Israeli public, explaining why the Knesset approved the changes to the reasonableness standard and asking the opposition to cooperate to reach broad consensus on the rest of the judicial reform.

“Today we carried out a necessary democratic process,” Netanyahu said. “This process was intended to bring back a measure of balance between the authorities – what we had here for 50 years.”

The real coup against Israel’s democracy

For once, Ha’aretz has stated an important truth

MELANIE PHILLIPS

As I write, tens of thousands of Israeli protesters against the government’s judicial reforms, who have spent the past few days marching to Jerusalem, are becoming even more dangerously agitated over the fact that the Knesset has just passed the first provision of these reforms which abolishes the criterion of “reasonableness” in judicial review.

The protesters describe these reforms as a “coup” that will “destroy democracy”. That’s how they describe a democratically elected government and Knesset enacting a proposal that was put to the electorate to vote on at the last general election.
