Christianity — Maronite, Orthodox, Catholic, as well as other denominations — was the dominant religion in the entire Levant before the Islamic military invasions and conquests in the seventh century. Constantinople (renamed Istanbul in 1930) was the capital of the great Christian Byzantine Empire.

Last month, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott started the ball rolling, designating the Muslim Brotherhood and the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) “foreign terrorist organizations.” While the establishment media complacently assured us that he couldn’t really do such a thing and that his proclamation would turn out to be meaningless, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had an altogether different reaction: he thought Abbott’s action was eminently worthy of emulation.
Peloni: If America is a nation founded upon the concept of liberty being the offspring of the divined dignity of men, why is America designing safeguards which ignores the dignity of man and openly defies G_d given rights. Liberty is not a gift of government but the deed on which freedoms are built. The limits of the US govt are clearly enumerated in the Constitution and nothing about what is described here can be honestly be found listed there. Security and emergency powers are the catch phrases on which liberty and freedom are too regularly abandoned, and as Aynaz explains here, this has every aspect of doing exactly this.

The Order directs the Attorney General to establish an AI Litigation Task Force to challenge unconstitutional, preempted, or otherwise unlawful State AI laws that harm innovation.

A 15-minute drive. A missed opportunity. Several days ago Pope Leo XIV made his first official journey outside the Vatican. In fact the Muslim encounter included a visit to Istanbul’s Sultan Ahmed Mosque, known as the Blue Mosque, a name that highlights the thousands of hand-made turquoise ceramic tiles that grace the Muslim house of prayer.
Peloni: While Vance is not shy about demonstrating his contempt for Israeli MKs dealing with issues of sovereignty in Israel, he appears too timid to chastise the antisemites supporting him. Joan’s reference to this being evidence of a character flaw is spot on accurate. Leaders lead, while followers follow. Whichever of these two groupings Vance might like to characterize himself, his failure in these matters are highly problematic.

Peloni: It is funny reading that Ukraine’s ambassador found Netanyahu’s mention of Putin to be immoral. Indeed, does anyone recall that Ukraine has voted more often with Russia than not on the topic of Israel, as they were each voting against Israel. Was that moral? More than this, what could be more immoral than to show support for the Two State Solution, particularly after October 7? Yet support for this immoral demand remains to be Ukraine’s position as it was before October 7. Notably, while we are on the topic of morality, Amb Korniychuk could learn a lesson or two about morality by studying Israel’s insanely overly moral military doctrine which not only has a higher moral standard than Ukraine (far higher), it results in far greater successes while taking far fewer casualties, even as it maintains far greater morale in the army and public without the need of dragging soldiers to the front lines. Indeed, there is much which might be discussed on the subject of morality with the Ukrainian Ambassador, as I haven’t even addressed the penchant for Nazi insignia in Ukraine and the memorials of Nazi war criminals which adorn Ukraine’s countryside.

Israel summoned the Ukrainian ambassador for a reprimand on Wednesday, after he strongly criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for making positive comments about his relations with the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet “very soon,” according to a statement released Wednesday by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The announcement followed a warm and friendly phone conversation between the two leaders.

The U.S. seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, President Donald Trump confirmed Wednesday.
The tanker’s ownership and origin were not revealed, but Trump said the vessel was “very large” while speaking to reporters on Wednesday. The president did not offer the rationale behind the seizure during his remarks. “As you probably know, we’ve just seized a tanker on the coast of Venezuela,” he said. “Large tanker, very large, largest one ever seized actually.”
