North American Jewish leaders who consider themselves Zionists should not only support the results of the Nov. 1 Israeli election, but applaud them.
We not only have a government that represents a majority of the citizens of Israel – unlike the previous government – but one that is dedicated to a Zionist vision that supports the rights of Jews to live in Judea and Samaria, eastern Jerusalem and the Golan.

Since I first pointed out that The Bibi Camp got 49.5% of the vote, yet 54% of the seats, everyone has been writing about it.
Today TOI published an article in which they explored the turnout:
The first thing to note is that overall turnout actually went up, from 67% in 2021 to 71%. Irrespective of everything else, it is quite remarkable that the Israeli public’s response to election after election is actually to go to vote in greater numbers.

JPOST just published a very long but very interesting article titled The Israeli left has lost more than an election by Haviv Rettig Gur and subtitled “Israel’s left has been in freefall for 3 decades. It didn’t lose ground in the election; it simply woke up to the mismatch between its political institutions and the electorate”
Essentially, he points out that the electorate has been changing for 30 years but the left, Meretz and Labour, didn’t.
In the US, we often read older Democrats say, “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party, it left me.” which is quite true.

My research team is currently monitoring online political content being sent to voters in swing states through more than 2,500 computers owned by a politically-diverse group of registered voters (our “field agents”), and we are concerned about what we’re seeing.
We are aggregating and analyzing search results on the Google and Bing search engines, messages displayed on Google’s home page, autoplay videos suggested on YouTube, tweets sent to users by the Twitter company (as opposed to tweets sent by other users), email suppression on Gmail, and more.

(JNS) As far as many American Jews are concerned, this time the Israelis have gone too far. After more than four decades of tolerating, with decreasing patience and growing disdain, Israeli governments that were led by the Likud Party, the results of this week’s Knesset election go beyond the pale for a lot of liberals.
Their angst is not so much focused on the return to power of Benjamin Netanyahu for his third stint as the Jewish state’s prime minister, even though he is widely viewed by many Jewish Democrats as the moral equivalent of a red-state Republican. The panic about the election results is caused by the fact that the Religious Zionist Party and its leaders, Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, will play a leading role in the next governing coalition. The party won 14 seats, making it the third largest in the Knesset and an indispensable part of the majority that Netanyahu is about to assemble.
Voters expect the incoming Netanyahu government to clean up the mess that Lapid and his colleagues are leaving behind, and to push Israel forward. The only way for Netanyahu and his partners to meet these expectations is by making far-reaching reforms to the legal system.

(November 4, 2022 / JNS) After an electoral triumph as profound as Tuesday’s win for incoming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his Likud Party and the right-religious bloc, you’d think that politicians and voters would be having street parties and celebratory rallies, similar to those of Ehud Barak and his supporters in the aftermath of their victory in 1999.
As Benjamin Netanyahu begins negotiations to form his next coalition, he will have to balance between demands of his ultra-Orthodox and far-right allies.
One challenge for Netanyahu is that while his Likud party won 32 seats, the other potential members of the coalition – Shas, United Torah Judaism and Religious Zionism – collectively won a similar number of seats, making it difficult for Likud to insist on holding senior government portfolios.

On Friday, the Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee released 1050 page report detailing the claims made by myriad whistleblowers at the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the abuse of power and politicization of the nation’s foremost law enforcement authority.
They called it “the first comprehensive accounting of the FBI’s problems to date, which undermine the FBI’s fundamental law-enforcement mission.”
The following are the key details of the report.

Knesset member Itamar Ben Gvir visits the Temple Mount compound escorted by police officers on March 31, 2022 (Facebook screenshot; used under clause 27a of the copyright law)
Otzma Yehudit leader MK Itamar Ben Gvir is a well-known advocate of increased Jewish rights on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, where the activities of non-Muslims — including the right to prayer — are strictly limited.
The far-right leader and his party are set to be a crucial part of the governing coalition put forth by Benjamin Netanyahu, in which Ben Gvir is seeking to be public security minister — a role that carries with it authority over Israeli policy on the Temple Mount. As such, what changes might the next government make to arrangements at the incendiary holy site?

If there is a poster child for the Democrats’ humiliating failure to make the events surrounding January 6, 2021 a winning issue in the midterm elections, it is U.S. Representative Elaine Luria (D-Va.).
The two-term congresswoman is fighting for her political life in a race now categorized as a toss-up; a recent poll showed Luria tied with Republican State Senator Jen Kiggans just a few weeks before an expected red wave election, despite Luria outspending Kiggans by a more than 2-1 margin. (Before the state’s remap process, Luria represented a district that voted for Joe Biden by 5 percentage points and Hillary Clinton by 6 percentage points. Her new district now has a 3-point Democratic advantage.)

T. Belman. The law should be strengthened, if needs be, and enforced. It was passed by a Labour government before the Oslo Accords in 1993.
“The Knesset Central Elections Committee is an official, autonomous, and self-contained body, responsible for the organization, logistics and execution of the general elections for Knesset.
“A new Central Elections Committee is formed 60 days after a new Knesset is established following elections, to prepare for the next round of Knesset elections. Heading the Committee is a Supreme Court judge, appointed by the President of the Supreme Court. The Committee is comprised of the Committee presidency, plenum, and the professional staff, headed by the director-general.”
This must be part of the anticipated Judicial reform.
An amendment from 1985 added Section 7(A) to the Basic Law: The Knesset, which provides that, “A list of candidates shall not participate in the elections for the Knesset if its aims or actions, expressly or by implication, point to one of the following:

Storms come in many forms and may consist of many different constituent elements, but when all these elements combine at the same critical moment, we call it a “perfect storm.” When such a storm is transposed analogically to the cultural, political, and economic realms, that is, when it seems to impact the entire social environment, we have no choice but to grasp its significance and prepare for its onset by taking protective measures.
