Palestine — “The Jewish People’s State” under International Law

T. Belman. I recently posted On the Legitimacy of the Settlements: A Legal and Historical Perspective  It contained an argument by Lorejnzo Kamel, a Harvard scholar,  and a rebuttal by Salomon Benzimra, the author  of  The Jewish Peoples Rights to the Land of Israel,

This post by Wallace Brand, Harvard Law, is also in response.

One other thought. The beneficiary of the Palestine Mandate was the “Jewish people” rather than the Jews of Palestine. In part this was to enfranchise all the Jews, not just those in Palestine, thereby creating a majority.

By Wallace Brand   (published on Dec 8, 2015)

A few months after the Ottoman Empire joined Germany in World War 1 in 1914 by attacking Russian ships, Herbert Samuel, a British Zionist, later appointed as the first Commissioner of the British Mandate in Palestine, recognized this was likely an opportunity to obtain a Jewish Palestine. But he decided that there were too few Jews in the population in Palestine at that time for immediate statehood to be practical. Although in the Jerusalem area the Jews were two thirds the total population, in the Palestine territory as a whole they only numbered about 100,000 or about one sixth the total of perhaps 600,000 Arab Muslims and Christians.

Herbert Samuel, a British Jew who had risen high in the British Labor Government wrote in a memo to the British War Cabinet entitled “The Future of Palestine”: If Palestine were to be open to unrestricted Jewish immigration, it might become a Jewish majority state. How could they become a Jewish majority state? It would need a majority to be able to command obedience from the Arab ethnic population; also a larger population to protect the state against Arabs or other enemies external to the state. A failed Jewish state might set back Zionism for 100 years.

Jordan Peterson: ‘The fate of the world depends on Israel’

Renowned Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson told a 3000-strong crowd ‘We need Jerusalem’ with tears in his eyes.

Dr. Jordan Peterson, the Canadian psychologist, and owner of one of the most listened-to podcasts in the world said last night (Thursday), while he tearfully pleaded with those present in the International Convention Center in Jerusalem to protect the holy city.

Peterson said: “As Jews in Israel, are you telling the greatest story ever told? Well, you decide that by how you live. And what you do will affect the world – for one reason or another, it’s not so easy to understand, everyone looks here to see, well, how are you actually doing, under this tremendous assault of adversarial criticism, as this little, tiny people in the middle of no man’s land in some real sense, as a -what would you say – cardinal model of the nation-state and the city on the hill.”

Israel Needs to Defeat Arab Rejectionism within Its Borders

by Alex Nachumson, Arutz Sheva

There are lots of types of wars and conflicts, and many examples of victories and defeats throughout history.

What all of them have in common is that they end when one side gives up and realizes it can not achieve its war aims.

The strategy of the Arab violent rejectionist war against the Jewish people’s right to self-determination, which is now well into its second century, has not dramatically changed throughout the decades, despite the ever-evolving tactics. It is simply to end the idea of Jewish national sovereignty anywhere in its indigenous and ancestral homeland.

WASHINGTON – Democratic lawmakers have expressed outrage at OPEC+’s decision to cut oil production by two million barrels per day, calling for a dramatically redefined U.S.-Saudi Arabia relationship amid the Biden administration’s months-long efforts at repairing ties with Riyadh.

The move from the oil producing cartel, meant to spur a recovery in prices that had fallen to roughly $80 a barrel from more than $120 in early June, comes despite pronounced pressure from the Biden administration in hopes of aiding the global economy and lower fuel prices five weeks before the midterm elections.

The Ukraine War and National Interests

By Alexander G. Markovsky, AM THINKER

Donald Trump’s “America First” doctrine encountered stormy weather in the American globalists’ community, which characterized it as a mix of nationalism, unilateralism, and xenophobia.

However, “my country first” doctrine was not a new approach to international order. It was originated in the 17th century by a Frenchman, Armand-Jean du Plessis, known as Cardinal de Richelieu. Richelieu offered a revolutionary concept to create stability in the international system, later known as raison d’état or national interests. The concept has served as the most reliable guide for government policies for the last 300 years.

By  Alex Traiman, Israel Hayom    7.10.22

(JNS) Conservative superstars Jordan Peterson and Ben Shapiro lectured a standing-room only audience of approximately 3,000 at Jerusalem’s International Convention Center on Thursday.

In their speeches, the Daily Wire pundits addressed major challenges currently facing the Western world, the dynamics of power and totalitarianism, how the Torah’s well-known stories and a core belief in God serve as pillars of morality for all of mankind and the role Israel can play as an emerging technological and moral superpower on the world stage.

Democracy’s watchdog abandons its role

US voters left ignorant of the peril from Biden’s two-faced approach to Israel and Iran

By Melanie Phillips

It has often been said that the media is a pillar of democracy because it keeps our politicians honest.

Lifting the veil of secrecy in which authorities like to cloak themselves, revealing inconvenient truths that expose the inadequacies and worse of government actions and subjecting all politicians to forensic questioning without bias — this is how the media acts in the public interest.

US officials say they conveyed commitment to 2 states in DC meetings with Abbas aide

T. Belman. There you have it. The US is committed to “preserving the path towards negotiations for two states, and advancing equal measures of security, prosperity and freedom for Israelis and Palestinians alike.”” and “along the pre-1967 lines with mutually agreed land swaps.”
Meanwhile the US is portrayed as not wanting to head a peace process. Reject this idea, the US is focussing on facts on the ground like the PA and the EU are.
In sit-downs with Jake Sullivan, Wendy Sherman and others, PA minister Hussein al-Sheikh says he pressed to end Israeli ‘unilateral actions that destroy’ prospects for peace

Gender ideology is a Marxist system meant to break children from families, and societies from traditions. This is according to Jay Richards, director of the Heritage Foundation’s DeVos Center for Life, Religion, and Family. We speak with Richards about how children are being turned against their own bodies, how legal action is possible against doctors carrying out transition surgeries, and how gender ideology is a tool in the communist playbook.

As Nuclear War Looms: Does Russia Have a Right to its Own Monroe Doctrine?

By Selwyn Duke, AM THINKER

With news that Israeli intelligence has detected an “irregular presence” of nuclear-capable Russian bombers near Finland and retired general David Petraeus casually saying NATO would likely sink Vladimir Putin’s Black Sea fleet if Russia used a tactical nuclear weapon in Ukraine, it’s perhaps time for a few questions:

First, can we discuss a situation that could very well result in thermonuclear war — and the end of life as we know it — intelligently and rationally? Or must all questions about our Dr. Strangelove policy be met with childish name-calling (e.g., “stooge of Putin!”) designed to silence debate?

What Happens When Obama’s Illegal DACA Amnesty Goes to the Supreme Court?

The amnesty that refuses to die.

by

Implementing an amnesty for illegal aliens through the White House was one of the more blatant usurpations of legislative authority by Obama. And was followed by a fundamental lack of consequences.

In one of the more insane Roberts decisions, the liberal chief justice claimed that former Attorney General Sessions hadn’t followed proper procedure in declaring that DACA was unconstitutional and therefore the Obama amnesty had to stand. Somehow the Trump administration was not allowed to toss out a previous administration’s “selective enforcement” priority without following proper procedures. And Roberts decided he could even order the Trump administration to accept new illegal aliens as applicants as part of his APA power grab.
