Progressives claim to represent the forces of change, reform and social justice. They say they care for the well-being of the voters. They allege that those who believe in the Constitution and Bill of Rights are cruel, and call them dangerous racists.

Yet they forget some of the most important words in the Declaration of Independence that framed our national mission:

“We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Is an unexpected October Surprise on the way?

They think it’s a bad thing, but I give The Nation credit for reportorial digging.  The hard-left magazine has discovered that federal law enforcement agencies (though not the FBI) have been tracing whom the mobs in Portland have been communicating with.  The apparent lead role in utilizing hi tech and classified electronic means is being played by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A), while the U.S. Marshals Service is dispatching street-level personnel.  This bypasses the FBI, whose director, Christopher Wray, is on the record in sworn testimony, dismissing any such superstructure:

T. Belman. Trump has been defunding the PA from day one.  Defunding will continue until they collapse.  The EU will also start to defund them because they are a lost cause and Europe doesn’t want to go it alone.

Their financial situation deteriorated amid the coronavirus pandemic, but also during a period when normalization agreements were being negotiated between several Gulf states and Israel.

Palestinian officials have a feeling that the recent normalization agreements between Gulf states and Israel have led to a sudden decrease in funding from Arab states to the Palestinian Authority.

According to The New Arab and data from the Palestinian Finance Ministry service, Ramallah has received no aid from Arab countries since March, in addition to a 50% decrease in foreign aid.

Ramallah’s total revenues dropped by about 70% this year.

As an example of Trump’s brilliance, he aligned with the Kurds in eastern Syria to get them to defeat ISIS and control the 30% of Syria east of the Euphrates R where most of Syria’s oil is to be found. He did this with less than 10,000 US troops.  By threatening to withdraw more troops from the ME and by strengthening Israel by recognizing her sovereignty over the Golan and Jerusalem and recognizing her right to annex the Jordan Valley, he forced the Gulf States into the arms of Israel for protection. His lack of ambivalence towards Israel drove the point home. The arabs had no choice but to embrace Israel.

He will now turn his attention on Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq.  I predict that these countries will all become part of the emerging alliance.  Russia will become an ally in order to preserve her influence in the New Syria and Iran will be forced to capitulate.  That’s the New Middle East.

When President Donald Trump presided over the signing ceremony for the Abraham Accords between Israel, the UAE, and Bahrain last week on the South Lawn of the White House, his critics cast the event as a real-life enactment of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” in which Trump played a minimal role in a meaningless accord involving two tiny Arab nations that had never made war on the Jewish state. “The Emperor’s New Clothes” is indeed an apt analogy, but it was Trump’s critics—not the president—who were shown to be naked.

It’s nothing new for political religions to produce radicals that develop their own sects or cults. This time around, rigid devotion to enforcing mask compliance has produced runaway fanaticism based on nothing but blind faith that more mask-wearing is always better. Even the public health experts, whom these followers all promoted as great prophets just months ago, can’t tame their fervor.

That’s a problem, because a return to normalcy will require subduing radical factions that agitate for oppression. Restrictions such as mask mandates are like oxygen to followers of radical fundamentalist Covidianism — the abiding belief that only lockdowns, social distancing, and masks can deliver us from the deadly pandemic. The longer mandates stay in place and experts continue promoting mask use — “My mask protects you! Your mask protects me!” — the stronger and more widespread the extremism will grow, and the less influence experts will have over their behavior.

The IDF targeted illegal Palestinian building in a special West Bank operation on Wednesday, as the United Nations warned against a four-fold spike in such demolitions despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The IDF’s Civil Administration said that six illegal uninhabited structures were removed in Samaria and in the South Hebron Hills, including an events hall, as well as illegal electrical power lines.

By that time Soviet propaganda (like the Soviet leaders) was a self-parody and could not address this question. I was able to find the answer later in Israel, while witnessing what is happening nowadays here and in the United States.

With normalization deals being signed and regional dynamics in flux, Jordan is trying to adapt to what it fears is faltering Arab support for the Palestinian issue and a two-state solution.

Jordan has been watching moves to normalize ties between Gulf states and Israel with concern as the Arab consensus has crumbled around conditioning the recognition of Israel to its withdrawal from Palestinian territories occupied in 1967 and the creation of a Palestinian state.

US President Donald Trump has stated that “seven or eight” states may soon follow suit in normalizing ties with Israel. Jordan declined a White House invitation to attend the Sept. 15 ceremony in which the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain signed historic agreements recognizing Israel.

Think about it. Big business has been a stalwart GOP ally for decades. Indeed, many congressional Democrats correctly viewed the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as nothing more than a wing of the Republican party.

It was only natural for me; I had been a regular participant in sit-ins for Black housing rights and protest marches for civil rights. Having grown up in an all-Black neighborhood, I, like many other Jews at the time, thought it was horrifying that Black Americans were being denied their inalienable right to vote. I wanted to do my part. While in Mississippi, I was arrested by the local police, who held me in custody for hours, hurling disgusting insults at me the entire time. I was scared for my life.

I’m telling you this because some recent attacks against me have mischaracterized me. In Op-Ed after Op-Ed in these and other pages, people have disparaged me as racist for my criticism of the Black Lives Matter movement. Nothing could be further from the truth.

The Saudi king has often said he will only pursue rapprochement with Israel after peace is reached with the Palestinians. But Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has signaled he sees no reason to wait.

Saudi Arabia, the most powerful Arab nation and home to Islam’s holiest sites, has made its official position on the region’s longest-running conflict clear: Full ties between the kingdom and Israel can only happen when peace is reached with the Palestinians.

Yet state-backed Saudi media and clerics are signaling change is already underway with Israel – something that can only happen under the directives of the country’s powerful heir, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

A month ago, few had heard of Kimberly Klacik, a young black woman trying to be Baltimore’s representative in Congress. That all changed when she released a stunning campaign video showing her in a red dress and high heels, striding through Baltimore’s derelict streets, and explaining her conservative plans for bringing Baltimore back to its former glory. It would be hard to improve on her first video, but Klacik’s done it. Her latest is even better than her first, and by a wide margin.

Democrats have such a tight hold on Baltimore that it’s not clear whether Klacik can beat Rep. Kweisi Mfume. She already lost to him in the spring when there was a special election to replace the late Rep. Elijah Cummings. Nevertheless, Klacik’s got star power and that matters. Thanks to her first campaign video, Klacik was one of the speakers at the Republican convention:

Last week, President Trump banned Critical Race Theory (“CRT”) in federal agencies, and he meant it. When the CDC tried to ignore the ban, the Trump administration squashed it. Yesterday, Trump expanded the ban from federal agencies to the military, government contractors, and grantees. What the reference to “grantees” means is that academia, which birthed this racist theory, has a choice: Federal money or continued CRT training.

CRT holds that there is a specific race that is inherently inferior and seeks to destroy innocent lives. Anything associated with that toxic, including the values it advances, needs to be rejected. Reduced to its essentials, CRT is indistinguishable from what the Nazis claimed about the Jews or the Democrats, through the KKK and Jim Crow, claimed about blacks.

Except for a few pathetic and disgusting fringe groups, Nazis and the KKK are in the past. Unfortunately, CRT is in the here and now, and it lies at the heart of the modern Democrat party.

Last week the American ambassador to China, Terry Branstad, attempted to publish an op-ed with his assessment of American-Chinese relations. The Chinese Communist Part summarily squashed it, banning the op-ed in all Chinese publications. This Monday, September 14, Branstad submitted his resignation from his post. (He will continue to serve in a caretaker capacity until his as-yet-unnamed replacement can step in in October.)

I hardly have the ambassador’s ear on this topic, but it is fairly clear from the op-ed that Branstad sees no hope for an improvement in the bilateral relationship and that the fault lies with Beijing. The op-ed neither has the tone of someone who is mourning what could have been, or someone ready for a fight. Instead it sounds like someone who after years–decades–of engagement is admitting the obvious: relations are not working and have not been working for sometime. Read more…
