The private sector and foreign investors have become increasingly skeptical about doing business in China since Covid-19. The risks of shutdowns, travel restrictions, disruptions to normal operation and supply chains, and liquidity shortages resulting from China’s zero-Covid policy have significantly shaken their confidence.
In November 2022, for the first time in a nearly a decade, an election in Israel had a decisive outcome. The government that emerged from that election two months later was instantly unacceptable to other Israelis, who have since taken to the streets.
Over the past two months, the question I have been asked more than any other is: Can you explain what’s going on in Israel? The answer is not difficult: The right is seeking to enact an activist agenda, and that agenda angers, alarms, and/or terrifies everybody who didn’t vote for the parties of the right.

Why the dinosaurs? What’s about to become extinct?
Listen carefully to the audio of the very brief clip (below) from Saturday night’s protest, and you’ll hear, in part what you’ve been hearing all along. At the very, very end of the clip you hear the protesters—in what was for Jerusalem a massive protest, in Tel Aviv the numbers went from 120,000 to 180,000 on the eve of the Knesset’s returning from its recess—chanting what they’ve been chanting all along. De-Mo-Krat-Ya. You don’t need to speak a lot of Hebrew to know what that means.
T. Belman. McCarthy just met with the King in Aquba to discuss the matter. He is now talking with the Israelis.

An Israeli military court extended on Sunday the detention of a Jordanian lawmaker who was arrested by Israel for allegedly smuggling large quantities of weapons in the West.
Last Sunday, Jordan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry alleged that Jordanian lawmaker Imad al-Adwan was arrested for smuggling a large quantity of weapons into the West Bank. The court extended the detention by eight days.

It is clear to almost any observer of this country that internal disputes are more threatening than external threats; that Israel’s future depends more on repairing a modicum of national unity and even global Jewish accord than it does on countering Iran. In fact, the latter may be impossible without the former.
One can even argue that there is a significant correlation between Israel’s social and spiritual state and the geopolitical reality it faces. The divine promise in the Bible to help Israel surmount its enemies is conditional. It is predicated upon Israel’s adherence to a rigorous code of law and ethics.

Mercouris had an interview with former US Diplomat, Chas Freeman, mostly on the Ukraine war and Russia and China on which Freeman offers a very informative conversation. He was the Ambassador to Saudi Arabia during the early 90’s, and was involved in the US Foreign Service for about 30yrs til the mid 90’s. I recalled Freeman from the notoriety around his appointment to the National Intelligence Council during Obama’s first term, a nomination for which he failed to be confirmed before withdrawing due to the marked controversy which was raised during the election season. He blamed the Likud and their American allies for having scuttled his nomination, but the truth is that it was his own pronounced pro-Saudi and his anti-Israel positions which led to the opposition to his nomination. In any event, there is not a great deal of discussion in the interview on the Middle East outside of the Saudi’s relations with China and Russia, and notably only a single swipe at Israel. I have to admit that I nearly did not watch the interview due to my recollections of and dislike for Freeman, but I am quite pleased that I did. Here is the link:

Two of the worst-performing US tech stocks this week – Cisco and Tesla – have something in common: Both ran into a buzz-saw of Chinese competition. At the New York opening April 21, Telsa had lost more than 12% during the week and Cisco more than 8.1%.
Tesla’s Chinese competitor BYD announced an $11,400 electrical vehicle, a challenge to Tesla’s lowest-cost offering at about $33,000.

While the Palestinian Authority continues to hide its finances from the international community, a recent statement by PA Prime Minister Muhammad Shtayyeh again demonstrates the clear effectiveness of Israel’s Anti-Pay-for-Slay law and the pressure being put on the PA by the international community.
The PA government recently approved its 2023 budget. Presenting the budget to the cabinet, Shtayyeh explained that the budget included a deficit of US$610 million. While acknowledging that the PA’s terror reward payments are causing financial damage to the PA, Shtayyeh clarified that the PA has no intention to abolish the payments:

Fox’s firing of the most-watched host on cable news, Tucker Carlson, is still roiling Leftists and patriots alike, but now Carlson himself has said that it didn’t actually happen at all. In a text message to the news analysis site 19FortyFive, Carlson said flatly: “I’m still employed by Fox.” This doesn’t mean, however, that all is forgiven and that his show will be back on the air Monday. On the contrary, it could hinder Carlson’s plans to take his truth-telling elsewhere.

With their decision to take Tucker Carlson’s show off the air, Fox News’s Rupert and Lachlan Murdoch have failed to account for media and political dynamics that have, over a period of years, shifted under their feet. The Murdochs’ decision will inevitably prove catastrophic for Fox News and will likely be an inflection point that marks a wholesale change to a media landscape that, to paraphrase Matt Taibbi, has calcified in progressive concrete.
Saudi-Iranian diplomatic relations
*Riyadh does not allow the resumption of the Saudi-Iranian diplomatic ties to befog the reality of the tenuous and shifty Middle East regimes, policies and agreements, and the inherently subversive, terroristic, anti-Sunni and imperialistic track record of Iran’s Ayatollahs.
*Saudi Arabia is cognizant of the 1,400-year-old fanatic, religious vision of the Ayatollahs, including their most critical strategic goal – since their February 1979 violent ascension to power – of exporting the Shiite Revolution and toppling all “apostate” Sunni Arab regimes, especially the House of Saud. They are aware that neither diplomatic, nor financial, short term benefits transcend the deeply-rooted, long term Ayatollahs’ anti-Sunni vision.

Despite the recent rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and Iran, Washington is examining Riyadh’s demands for a potential normalization with Israel, an American official told Israel Hayom.

So the fate of this power struggle has implications for Israel. Burnham paid $335 million in reparations to the US for “for victims of the bombings of the American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998 and the USS Cole in 2000,”

A rivalry between Sudan’s top two generals erupted into warfare on April 15, pitting the East African country’s military against a state-sponsored militia called the Rapid Support Forces. The military is using jet fighters to strike RSF positions, many in densely populated areas, while both factions are engaging in street battles using guns and artillery fire. Tens of thousands of Sudanese have fled their homes, while millions are trapped in the capital Khartoum and elsewhere with diminishing supplies of food and water.
