Netanyahu’s Strategy for achieving 61 seats

The last thing Benjamin Netanyahu wants is for voters to start focusing on his political partners in Religious Zionism and the Haredi parties,

By Anshel Pfeffer, HAARETZ

Benjamin Netanyahu’s political allies are acting as if they have already won the election.

First it was Shas leader Arye Dery, who, in a radio interview two weeks ago, was asked how under the terms of his plea bargain (for tax evasion) he could be a minister in the next government. Dery angrily responded that if the High Court of Justice dared to intervene, the Netanyahu government would pass an “overriding clause” and bypass the courts.

Gantz: The Palestinian Authority is the relatively moderate body

We are facing challenging years in national security, the likes of which we have not known perhaps since the Yom Kippur War.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz on Wednesday presented to the experts of the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS) the main security challenges as he sees them.

“As the Minister of Defense and as someone who has devoted most of his years to the security of Israel – I must tell you that we are facing challenging years in terms of national security, the likes of which we have not known for many years, perhaps since the Yom Kippur War. The IDF and the security forces are required to take daily actions against five active fronts and more – in Israel, in Gaza, on the northern border with Syria, Lebanon, as well as in the cyber dimension. All this alongside operations that take place far beyond enemy lines, and that it would be best not to speak of,” said Gantz.

The Threat of Civil War in Europe

Social crises in Europe face escalation this winter.

The AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE

While 2022 has already seen its fair share of horror in the ongoing Russo-Ukraine War, this winter might see the further rise of a new specter: civil war. German social researcher Piotr Kocyba expects a new, violent wave of protests as the continent turns colder. Kocyba, who works at the Chemnitz University of Technology and is a member of the board of the Berlin Institute for Protest and Movement Research, claims that right-wing extremists are already heating up the mood, but the left also wants to call citizens to street demonstrations. “If the crisis lasts longer, it cannot be ruled out that terrorist groups will form, as was the case during the anti-refugee protests,” the researcher explained to German media.

Lapid: We won’t allow Jewish prayer on the Temple Mount

T. Belman. It is obvious to me that Lapid has decided wooing the Arab voters is his best chance to form the next government. With that mindset does anyone doubt that not only will he continue with Ra’am in his coalition but will also go after the other Arab party, Joint List. With them added to his coalition, he will have a majority according to the polls. It’s him or Bibi.

PM makes appeal to Israeli Arab sector to vote for Yesh Atid in the upcoming elections.

Israel National News  Oct 18, 2022, 11:55 PM

Prime Minister Yair Lapid addressed the Arab public and asked that they vote for his Yesh Atid party in the upcoming Knesset elections, citing his government’s support for Muslim rights on the Temple Mount and policy prohibiting Jews from praying at the site.

In an interview with two Israeli Arab channels, Lapid stated that his government has done a lot in the fight against crime in the Arab sector, but qualified by saying: “It is not enough. There is improvement, but the improvement is too small. It is a process, and we need to make sure that this process continues and is strengthened.”

Will Israel Supply Ukraine with Air Defenses?

Published originally under the title “Israel Air Defense Again in Spotlight as West Promises Ukraine Defenses.”

Israel is again being singled out as a country that could be doing more for Ukraine in the wake of the Russian bombardment of Ukrainian cities using drones and missiles.

The Washington Post noted this week that “as missiles strike Ukraine, Israel won’t sell its vaunted air defense.” This adds to a chorus of voices who have wondered since the war began whether Israel would supply air defenses to Ukraine. Some of the criticism is uniquely aimed at Israel, with references to the Holocaust and other claims that the Jewish state must send defenses.

What’s wrong with voting for Ayelet Shaked?

The writer of this article) holds a degree in statistics and says there is no way Shaked will pass the threshold. Op-ed.

Oct 18, 2022,

Yair Lapid is a delightful man, far more genial than Netanyahu, and Benny Gantz is well-intentioned and good-looking. Nonetheless, if they continue to hold power, especially if that power is shared with their partners, Meretz and the likes of Ofer Kasif (the MK who said “Palestinians shooting IDF soldiers are like partisans fighting Nazis“), Israel’s fate will resemble a delicious chocolate cake baked for the holidays – it will disappear. Territorially.

We’re Jewish Berkeley Law Students, Excluded in Many Areas on Campus

Even if there are no “Jewish-free” zones here, there are quite a few places where Jews are decidedly unwelcome.

(Oct. 17, 2022) We are second-year law students at the University of California, Berkeley. We are Jewish. And we are Zionists. (We are also speaking for ourselves, and not on behalf of the school or any organization.)

Friends, family, and the media repeatedly contacted us over the past several weeks to ask how it feels to be students at a school with “Jewish-free” zones. While there are no explicit “Jewish-free” zones at Berkeley Law, there is an unacceptable tolerance for excluding and demonizing Zionist identities. We want to share the impact this has on us as Jewish students.

Peter Bergson – The Unintended Hero of the Holocaust Era

Saving 200,000 European Jews.

by

Ken Burns’ The US and the Holocaust underplayed Peter Bergson’s role in the creation of the War Refuge Board, which is said to have saved 200,000 European Jews. Burns’ documentary, whether for ideological reasons or willful ignorance treated Bergson’s role as an afterthought. On the other hand, Rabbi Stephen Wise, Bergson’s nemesis received positive attention in Burns’ documentary. Yet, it was Stephen Wise who told the antisemitic State Department to hold off on distributing Gerhard Riegner’s report of the German Nazis systematic murder of Jews in Europe until he could verify it! It was pretty clear then, in 1943, that Hitler’s Germany intended to annihilate Europe’s Jews.

From protester to fighter: Fleeing Iran’s brutal crackdown to take up arms over the border

A teenage dissident trailed behind a group of smugglers in the borderlands of western Iran. For three days, Rezan trekked a rocky mountain range and walked through minefields along a winding path forged by seasoned smugglers to circumnavigate the country’s heavily armed Revolutionary Guards. It was a trip too dangerous for respite of much more than a few stolen moments at a time.

Is Trump’s critique of American Jews justified?

T. Belman. Blum nails it. She is the daughter of the late Commentary editor, Norman Podhoretz and Midge Decter. Commentary was my favorite publication when growing up.  I read every article and saved every edition for many decades.

Kindly note how she spells “antisemitic”. Today. it is most common to spell it “anti-Semitic”. I am with her and I often amend articles that I post to correct the spelling. In the fifties and sixties, the only spelling one used was antisemitic. This is not about being against Semites. It is not about Semites. It is about Jews.

The response to the former US president’s Truth Social post has been nothing short of a hysterical – purposeful – misreading of his words, which were neither threatening nor antisemitic.

The latest brouhaha surrounding former US President Donald Trump pertains to comments he posted on Sunday about – and directed to – American Jews.

Iranian Kurds Fear Regime’s Threat of Incursion

The crisis in western Iran is intensifying. As Sanandaj and other cities burn, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) last weekend issued a curious statement threatening a military incursion into Kurdish northern Iraq.

The statement read: “In case of inability of some neighbors in expelling elements of separatist terrorists and hypocrites stationed in the border areas… the armored and special forces units of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s armed forces are ready to be deployed to free this region of these evils forever.”

What is a kamikaze drone?

T. Belman. The drone costs bout $20,000 compared to an average of $13 million for a missile. They are easy to shoot down as their speed is 115 miles/hr. The also have a small payload. Iran is sending them to Hezbollah and Syria too. The Iron Dome missile costs between $20,000 and $100,000 each depending on who you believe.

Ukrainian officials said Russia killed at least four people on Monday by detonating a so-called kamikaze drone in Kyiv, the latest apparent use of the unmanned explosive device.

The officials suggested the strike — one of 28 drones that targeted the Ukrainian capital on Monday — appeared to involve an Iranian Shahed-136 drone, with video showing an aircraft quickly lowering on its target in the city’s center.
