The high ground is indespensible to Israel’s security.

T. Belman. After receiving this email and article I didn’t know how to respond. The article was important because it made the point that every second counts and that the high ground should never be ceded. With that I fully agree. But the article seems to suggest that a New State in Sinai is preferable to a Palestinians state in J&S. That goes without saying but I do not believe it was proposed as an alternative. The high ground in J&S should never be given up regardless if a new state is proposed for Sinai.

I believe we should focus on getting the Gazans to emigrate rather than to provide more land to them or a port offshore etc. Our agenda should be to get them to leave.

A retired US intelligence officer who was active for many decades in the ME wrote to me, “You might want to publish this with your comment/evaluation”

Any proposal such as an offshore  port for Gaza, a new state solution, etc. coming from an IDF planner, especially from the Air Force worries me.

I remember how arrogantly we were dismissed during the Lebanese incursion by the then IDF Chief of Staff who had been the former commander of the Air Force. We told him that he had only 25% as much time complete his operation as had been promised  by Condoleezza Rice.

Further, his helter-skelter  hit and withdraw tactics resulted in the loss of  IDF lives and Hezbollah retaking control of the areas as soon as the IDF returned from its missions.

My personal insult was when the IDF on security grounds did not publish the wing camera photography showing Hezbollah  launch crews firing from courtyards of apartment houses when the IDF was accused of attacking civilian targets  and causing civilian casualties.

The New State Solution in a Region Where Seconds Count

In recent months, several senior security experts have expressed support for aalternative to Israel’s status quo with the Palestinians. The plan, known as the New State Solution, proposes joining a coastal section of the northern Sinai Peninsula to the territory of Gaza, forming an expanded Palestinian state to the south of Israel

INTO THE FRAY: Dangerously disloyal opposition?

By Martin Sherman

If critics of the Nationality Bill have real concerns for the rights of non-Jewish minorities, the patriotic way to address them would be via a new Basic Law to protect them, not raucously denouncing the bill as “racist

The last week was one of immense sadness for me.

It was a week in which I watched—incredulously—as a savage, mindless and hugely hypocritical attack was launched against a noble ideal to which I have devoted almost my entire adult life: The idea of a sovereign nation-state for the Jewish people in their ancient homeland.

It is an ideal I have cherished and sacrificed for, both personally and professionally, and one whose defense has exacted a heavy toll on me, emotionally and economically.

Trump setting up policy team for peace plan

Officials say Trump administration staffing up a Middle East policy team in anticipation of unveiling its peace plan.

By Elad Benari, INN

Donald Trump

The Trump administration is staffing up a Middle East policy team at the White House in anticipation of unveiling its long awaited but largely mysterious Israeli-Palestinian Authority (PA) peace plan, U.S. officials said Thursday, according to The Associated Press.

The National Security Council last week began approaching other agencies seeking volunteers to join the team, which will work for President Donald Trump’s Mideast peace pointmen Jared Kushner and Jason Greenblatt, according to the officials.

The team, which is being set up to organize the peace plan’s public presentation and any negotiations that may ensue, will comprise three units: one concentrating on its political and security details, one on its significant economic focus and one on strategic communications, the officials said.

Qatar’s Opposition To Trump’s Forthcoming Middle East Peace Plan As Reflected In Qatari Cartoons

MEMRI

Inquiry And Analysis Series No. 1409

In recent weeks, the Qatari media has been slamming the Trump administration’s efforts to advance a regional peace plan that has come to be known as the “Deal of the Century.” Qatari media reports and articles about this plan have described it as serving Israel’s interests while eliminating the Palestinian cause. Furthermore, following reports in the non-Arab media that Saudi Arabia has been involved in formulating this plan, and against the backdrop of the growing crisis between Qatar and the “Arab Quartet” – i.e. the four countries, led by Saudi Arabia, which have been boycotting Qatar for the last year – the Qatari media has been accusing Saudi Arabia and other Arab regimes of collaborating with the Trump administration and betraying the Palestinians.

On June 28, the Doha-based Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, directed by former Israeli Knesset Member ‘Azmi Bishara, who is close to the Qatari regime, likewise published a report about the Trump peace plan, stating that it is the worst Middle East peace plan presented by the U.S. to date, that it completely disregards the Palestinian rights and the fact that the root of the problem is the Israeli occupation, that it resembles the plan of the Israeli right for ending the conflict with the Palestinians and constitutes an attempt to impose this Israeli position on the Arabs. The report also attacked certain Arab countries, chiefly Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the Emirates, for cooperating with this plan, and assessed that it would not go forward as long as the Palestinians opposed it and continued to resist the pressures exerted upon them.

US President Donald Trump’s support is key to building more settlement homes that are needed, said Yesha Council head Hananel Durani Wednesday in a plea to former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee.

“We see now that under the Trump administration the atmosphere is changing,” Durani said during a bricklaying ceremony in Efrat with Trump ally Huckabee as part of an effort to reach the White House.

The Yesha Council and Huckabee celebrated the construction of 900 new homes, 600 of which are in the final stages of building.

Pushback on LGBT. Not an easy subject.

Accepting the homosexual agenda and normalizing it in our schools has engendered identity confusion among some of our youth, impaired their love of Torah and weakened their commitment to mitzvot.

By Rabbi Steven Pruzansky, INN

The LGBT advocates have achieved remarkable success in the last 20 years, transforming American society by not only protecting their civil rights and also winning Supreme Court approval of same-sex marriage. Here in Israel, the story is similar although not identical, and thus the rejection of a bill in the Knesset that would have permitted single men or a male couple to use a female surrogate to father children unleashed waves of anger. The activists are simply unaccustomed to being denied anything.

Their tactics are by now familiar. Here they chose to call a mass strike (on Tisha B’Av, somewhat inspired, since working on Tisha B’Av is frowned upon!), block roads and traffic, insult anyone who disagrees with them, label rabbis as “Ayatollahs” and the like, demand that they be fired from their jobs and, of course, find the one word or phrase the traditionalists used that can serve as the headline of “intolerance,” all so they can avoid a debate on the substance. They have institutionalized the notion of “free speech for me but not for thee;” some opinions, especially ones that originate in the Torah, can no longer be freely uttered in the public domain as they would have it.

Israel is under massive Chinese, Russian cyber espionage attack

A look at one of the most secretive units of the Israeli intelligence community— the Shin Bet’s counter-espionage division, which was responsible for the arrest of former minister Gonen Segev—one of many cases of Tehran’s infiltration attempts. However, it turns out that the Iranians are actually the least of Israel’s problems.

By Ronen Bergman, YNET

A few months ago, “Ophir,” a senior official with a rich intelligence background turned private cyber security expert, was called back to duty.

The mission: Ophir and a team of experts were asked to examine the security of some of Israel’s main computer systems. A few systems were defined as “strategic,” others of lesser importance. But since less time and energy is spent on protecting these secondary systems, it can make them even more vulnerable to infiltration. The investigation team was put together by one of Israel’s governmental intelligence and information protection agencies.

The idea was to have someone from the outside—a fresh pair of eyes—look at these systems and identify “holes” and problems that may have gone unnoticed by the regular cyber security team.

Trump warns UN for hypocrisy on PLO, Hamas and Israel

Last year, Iran’s contribution to UNRWA was zero. Algeria’s contribution to UNRWA was zero. Tunisia’s contribution to UNRWA was zero. Haley named and shamed.

By David Singer, INN

President Trump has challenged United Nations (UN) member States to put their money where their mouths are in a hard hitting speech delivered by US Permanent Representative to the UN – Ambassador Nikki Haley – at a UN Security Council Open Debate on the Middle East on 24 July.

Following Trump’s dressing down of NATO – Haley attacked UN member States who are full of words but short on money when it comes to supporting the Palestinian Arabs.

“Here at the UN, thousands of miles away from Palestinians who do have real needs, there is no end to the speeches on their behalf. Country after country claims solidarity with the Palestinian people. If those words were useful in the schools, the hospitals, and the streets of their communities, the Palestinian people would not be facing the desperate conditions we are discussing here today. Talk is cheap.

Trump heads for summit with Rouhani. Israel caught by surprise

DEBKA

President Donald Trump said Tuesday night July 31: “I have a feeling they’ll be talking to us pretty soon. And maybe not, and that’s OK too.”  He sounded exactly as he did before meeting Kim Jong-un in Singapore on June 7. Israel, caught by surprise, reported an assurance from “a senior US official” that “there is no change in the tough policy against Iran.”

This development should not have come as a surprise. He led up to it two months ago. On June 7, Trump came out with this comment: “Iran is a different place than it was two months ago, And we’ll see what happens. And maybe, ultimately, something will happen with Iran.”  On another occasion, he said: “Iran is acting a lot differently. They’re no longer looking so much to the Mediterranean. They’re no long looking so much to what’s going on in Syria, what’s going on in Yemen and a lot of other places.”  Then, in a broad hint to his intention, he said: “They’re a much, much different group of leaders. And I hope at some point they’ll come to us and we’ll sit down.”

FBI Launched Investigation Two Years Ago — Still No Collusion Found

By Kristina Wong, BRIETBART

The collusion theory was first floated in the media by Hillary Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook, on July 24, 2016, two days after hacked Democratic National Committee emails had been released on the eve of the DNC convention.

Mook told CNN’s Jake Tapper to look at the Republican National Committee’s platform on assisting Ukraine, Trump’s comments on NATO, and the hacking.

“I think when you put all this together, it’s a disturbing picture, and voters need to reflect on that,” he said. He repeated that suggestion to ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos.

Seven days later, the FBI’s No. 2 counterintelligence official Peter Strzok formally launched the Bureau’s investigation into the Trump campaign, on July 31, 2016.

US mulls another drastic cut to Palestinian aid agency’s budget

U.S. lawmakers seek to penalize U.N. relief agency for inflating number of Palestinian refugees from 20,000 to 5.2 million • Sources say Trump administration likely to release long-classified report. By Ariel Kahana, ISRAEL HAYOM

U.S. lawmakers have introduced a new piece of legislation that would drastically reduce U.S. funding for the United Nations relief agency for Palestinian refugees, known as UNRWA.

The United States is UNRWA’s biggest contributor. In January, the State Department notified the agency that the United States would be withholding $65 million of the $125 million earmarked for it, saying that additional U.S. donations would be contingent on major changes by UNRWA.

Majority of Israeli Jews support nation-state law, polls determine.

61% of Israeli Jews do not think the law will impact the Druze community’s commitment to the state of Israel, one poll found.

By Gil Hoffman, JPOST

A small majority of Jewish Israelis believe the Knesset was correct in passing the Jewish Nation-State Law, two polls found Tuesday.

A Panels Research poll taken for the Walla! News website found that 58% of Israelis support the new law, 34% oppose it and eight percent had no opinion. The poll found that those defining themselves as right-wing or centrist were more likely to back the bill and self-defined leftists were more likely to oppose it.

Among people who define themselves as right-wing, 85% said they supported the law. ten percent oppose it, and five percent had no opinion. Among self-proclaimed leftists, 75% oppose the law, 19% back it, and six percent had no opinion.

Pastor Brunson, Trump’s America, and Ankara’s Hypocrisy…

By Gerald A. Honigman | Exclusive to Ekurd.net

The headline for the Bizpac Review mailing for July 30th read, “Turkish President Erdogan Warns Trump…”

Before going any further, I’ve valued the American and NATO relationship with the Turks too…the Turkish Straits, the Russian bogeyman, and so forth. But, at what price?

The current dispute is over the demand that Washington issued that Ankara release American Pastor Andrew Brunson, imprisoned since 2016, who had a small church in Turkey that Turks accuse of supporting “terrorists–i.e. especially Kurds, who’ve done most of America’s fighting against ISIS and other Jihadis. They refuse to accept that they’re really just “Mountain Turks,” as Ankara renamed them after also outlawing their language and culture, and have forcibly reacted against their bloody subjugators.

Syrian government retakes Golan Heights frontier with Israel

Islamic State-linked fighters surrender control of Yarmouk Basin in southwestern Syria, their last pocket of control in the area • Breakthrough against fighters caps six-week campaign by government forces to retake southwest.

Associated Press and Israel Hayom Staff

The Syrian government regained control of the frontier with the Israeli Golan Heights for the first time in seven years on Monday, after Islamic State-linked fighters gave up their last pocket of territory in the area.

The breakthrough against the fighters, reported by state media and an opposition-linked war monitoring group, capped a six-week campaign to retake the southwest corner of the country.

Rebels captured the area along the Golan Heights after a popular uprising broke out against President Bashar Assad in 2011. An Islamic State-linked outfit known as the Khaled bin Al-Waleed Army later seized the area from the opposition fighters.

Israel, stand firm on the nation-state law

T. Belman. Sherman makes the case why Israel shouldn’t wobble. Why it is entirely proper that we should have this law. What matters is not the wording per se, which Caroline Glick challanged, but the fact that we proclaimed it at all.

I note that the Catholic Church, the UN, Erdogan, much of the American Jewish leadership and the PA have all gone on the attack. We must take the heat. It will pass. Under no condition should we amend it to please our minorities, even the ones we like. Do not create a chink in our armour. Our detractors will try to take advantage of it.

Bibi was right when he said to the MKs, “don’t apologize”.

Everyone, Druze included, must accept that Israel is the nation-state of the Jews.

By Martin Sherman, ISRAEL HAYOM

Arens, you’re wrong about the law.

A few notable personalities from the Right are joining the wave of condemnation of Basic Law: Israel as the Nation-State of the Jewish People, namely former Defense Minister Moshe Arens and MK Benny Begin. In doing so, they are legitimizing those who wish us harm and who are using the “racist” nation-state law as proof that the Israeli government seeks to implement “discrimination” and “apartheid.”

The main reason they were foaming at the mouth was that the law makes no mention of the equal status and rights of the non-Jewish minorities in Israel, particularly those who serve in the IDF and the other branches of the security establishment. Of course, they are talking about the Druze and the Bedouin. This is a mistake; the nation-state law contains nothing that is designed to minimize the acknowledgment of minorities’ contributions to the state and its defense.

Climate change alarmists burned by studies showing destructive wildfires in decline

Global burned area dropped by about 25 percent over the previous 18 years, study shows

Scenes of Californians fleeing their homes and Greeks swimming out to sea have fueled alarm about climate change fueling deadly wildfires, but recent studies show that such destructive blazes are on the decline worldwide.

A September 2017 report in the journal Science found that global burned area dropped by about 25 percent over the previous 18 years, a finding consistent with a May 2016 paper published by the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences.

“[G]lobal area burned appears to have overall declined over past decades, and there is increasing evidence that there is less fire in the global landscape today than centuries ago,” said the study by British researchers at Swansea University.
