Peloni: Among other matters, Caroline raises the point that Israel must stop end its praise for Biden and his allies in Washington amid the accelerating conflict being raised between the govts of Israel and the US. 1. President Biden will recognize a Palestinian state in the early summer.
“We support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, and we do a lot of work inside the government to think about how to bring that about,” said State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller on January 31. Jerusalem absorbed the full weight of this statement during Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s recent visit to Israel. Last Friday, Maariv, a major Israeli newspaper, reported on the dismay Israeli officials felt over “the Biden administration falling in love with the idea of the establishment of a Palestinian state and unilateral recognition as a means of pressure on Israel.”
B. Kalman: This article unmasks the reality that the “owners” of the US government have created a corrupt conspiracy-a racket-with the Islamists across the Middle East-to keep the Middle East continuously destabilized. The racket goes by a number of names, most prominently the Two State Solution, but by other names such as “the war on terror.” One underlying purpose is to jettison Israel or leave her forever wounded and weak. Another is to make vast, unending, corporate profits through a never ending series of wars. Anything or anyone that stabilizes Israel or the Middle East will have to be sacrificed.

I don’t fault any Zionist or ally of Israel for having embraced the two-state solution, as I did for many years. No other peace plan could reconcile self-interest and lofty principles so seamlessly. No other plan could offer a better way to transcend the contradictions that reality imposed on Israelis, by making a Zionist argument, no less, for Palestinian statehood. In a letter to Netanyahu on Tuesday, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir demanded an end to humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, after the niece of rescued hostage Fernando Marman revealed that he never received any medication while in captivity, despite a Qatar-brokered deal that was supposed to see this happen.
Even as Israeli officials, under American pressure, take part in ceasefire talks in Cairo, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remains under intense domestic pressure from his hard-right coalition allies to reject what they see as an “irresponsible deal” to halt the IDF’s ongoing offensive in the Gaza Strip.
B.Kalman: It is not mind boggling that those currently operating the US government consider Qatar an ally. It is however, revealing that those operating the US government have a business model predicated on a real alliance with Qatar and Iran at the expense of the countries they call “allies” in the Middle East. The liberal center-right government led by Donald Tusk took office on December 13, 2023, after eight years of rule by “Law and Justice,” a nationalist right-wing party. The new government’s reform efforts face the kind of domestic opposition that may pose the biggest threat to democracy in Poland since its initial fluorescence in the 1980s.

President Biden has launched a military campaign in retaliation for the death of three Army reservists killed in a drone attack on their remote outpost in Jordan. When asked to expand on the president’s strategic aims, John Kirby was evasive. The National Security Council spokesman explained that it was “very possible” the U.S. would pursue “a tiered approach” which could entail “not just a single action, but potentially multiple actions” that would occur “over a period of time.”
This approach obscures the aims of U.S policy with a wink and a smile. Setting aside euphemisms for “going to war,” the proposed activities and timeline are deliberately unclear. Considered in context of Kirby’s remarks, one can safely imagine a campaign that will last longer than discrete strikes but shorter than the war in Afghanistan. Even then, this riposte may only further escalate regional chaos without hastening talk of victory or ticker-tape parades.
Still, one must wonder: What is the objective, and how will we achieve it?

Israeli Housing and Construction Minister Yitzhak Goldknopf has instructed the Israel Land Authority (ILA) to immediately cancel all lease agreements with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency and evict it from its main headquarters in eastern Jerusalem.
UNRWA “acted in the service of Hamas and even took part in the brutal massacre on Oct. 7, and mounting evidence shows that the organization has been supporting, assisting and educating [Palestinians] to harm Israel,” Goldknopf wrote in a letter made public on Monday night.

Belman. “The Oslo Accords list seven ‘permanent status’ issues, in this order: (1) Jerusalem, (2) refugees, (3) settlements, (4) security arrangements, (5) borders, (6) relations and cooperation with other neighbours, and (7) other issues of common interest. The various presidents since have assured the Israelis that all issues were to be negotiated. Obama changed this by delaring te borders were to the pre 67 borders with minor adjusments. He also declared the East Jereusalem would be the capital of Palestine. He had no authiority for making such declarations. And the demented president is preparing to recognized the state of Palestine.
So much for agreements and assurances.
The good news is that threats such as this and US efforts to negotiate a hostage deal are providing a tail-wind forcing Israel to accept the Jordan Option as it is the only game in town.

US President Joe Biden issued a memorandum linking American military aid globally to adherence to international humanitarian law, including for Israel, as he called the IDF’s military operation in Gaza “over the top.”
Forms of military aid could be suspended If reports of violations are found credible, according to the National Security Memorandum issued on Thursday night.
Countries receiving military aid have 45 days, by February 8, to assure the US that they would comply with the memorandum or risk a pause in the delivery of that aid.
