Your money or your life: The modern mugging of Israel

Muggers of Israel threaten “do what we say, even if it is against your best interests, or we will damage your economy etc.”

By Daniel Winston, INN

The local and global hysteria over Israel’s pending judicial reform is just the latest in a miserable line of muggings of Israel by our friends and family. Muggers are usually portrayed as using the line: “Your money or your life.” Ours are using a similar trope: “Do what we say, even if it’s against your own interests and the will of the Israeli electorate, or we will cause damage to your economy.” It’s a bit longer, but the explicit threat is just as clear. Let’s look at a few of these assaults, and then at what we can say to our muggers who always tell us that despite the violence which they are clearly perpetrating, they actually have our best interests at heart.

Israel’s Judicial Reform will Strengthen Israel’s Democracy not Destroy it

by Avi Abelow, ISRAEL UNWIRED

International Law Professor, and Kohelet Foundation Fellow, Eugene Kontorovich recently wrote an Op-Ed piece in the Wall Street Journal titled “Israel’s Supreme Court Claims a Veto on Political Appointments”.

The subtitle is “The intervention is a timely illustration of why the new government seeks to reform the tribunal.”

First, watch this video put out by the Kohelet Foundation, where Professor Kontorovich is a Fellow, to begin to understand how the judicial reform will strengthen Israel’s democracy:

Now take a moment to read though some of the factual points that Professor Kontorovich points out in his WSJ article:

Herzog warns of looming ‘societal collapse,’ lays out compromise on legal overhaul

T. Belman. I see nothing anti-democratic about the coalitions proposed judicial reforms.

Afterwards, The coalition said they were willing to talk about the five points and then postponed the vote for a week.

Gantz and Lapid both said they are willing to talk about Herzog’s five points, providing there is “real dialogue”.

New poll: Majority of Israeli public wants to stop judicial legislation

I think it would be a good thing to yield a little in order to arrive at consensus.  I am guessing that the coalition won’t yield enough to get a consensus in which case it will make some minor changes and not get consensus.

President says current plan would have ‘negative impact on Israel’s democratic foundations’; floats 5 principles as basis for reform, pleads with government to delay legislation

President Isaac Herzog delivers a message to the nation from his office in Jerusalem, February 12, 2023. (Screenshot/ Kan)

In an impassioned and heartfelt speech Sunday night, President Isaac Herzog called for compromise over the government’s plans to radically overhaul the judicial system, warning of what he said was imminent conflict and even potential bloodshed.

The IRS Came After Pro-Israel Groups, But Protected Hamas

“Come navigate the fine line between legal activism and material support for terrorism.”

David Boim was only 17 years old when he was shot and killed while waiting at a bus stop north of Jerusalem. The American teenager’s parents, Stanley and Joyce, have spent a quarter of a century since trying to bring Hamas, the Islamic terror group behind the attack, and its funders in the United States to justice. Their lawsuits have targeted, among others, the Holy Land Foundation which was found in federal court to have provided “material aid to Hamas” in what became the largest terrorism financing prosecution case in the United States.

The Tragic Tale of a Jewess who married a Muslim and lived in Ramallah and then escaped

After 7 years, living under horrific conditions as a Moslem in a village north of Ramallah, Efrat (not her real name) escaped with her kids.

After seven years living as a Moslem in a village north of Ramallah, and seven months in a battered women’s shelter in Israel, Efrat (not her real name) is returning to Judaism, bringing her three young children back into the fold with her. She is one of four women who escaped from the Palestinian Authority (PA) a few weeks ago.

Campus diversity, equity, and inclusion programs make students miserable

By Andrea Widburg, AM THINKER

Winston Churchill offered two brief, brilliant definitions of socialism: (1) “Socialism is the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy.” (2) “The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings. The inherent virtue of Socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.” In other words, unhappiness is socialism’s lifeblood. It needs unhappy people to be the revolution’s foot soldiers and, after the revolution, its praetorian guard. Viewed that way, it makes sense to learn that a University of Michigan survey revealed that the larger the campus’s “diversity, equity, and inclusion” program, the more unhappy students were.

VERY GOOD NEWS ISRAEL

By Michael Ordman, VGNI

I was watching a jazzy performance of the song “The Rhythm of Life” last week precisely at the time that members of the Israeli army Search & Rescue mission were saving the lives of dozens of Turkish citizens trapped under rubble of two massive earthquakes. The title of the song aptly summarizes many of the news items in this week’s positive Israel newsletter. From the building of hospitals to medical research breakthroughs. From training Kenyan medics to providing equipment to save preemies in Moldovia.

Not backing down: Ben-Gvir determined to launch operation in eastern Jerusalem

10 killed in Jerusalem terror attacks in just 2 weeks

Deadly ramming attack comes 2 weeks after Neve Yaakov synagogue massacre.

Ben-Gvir intends to present his demands, which include a total lockdown of the Isawiya neighborhood, to the security cabinet on Sunday.

  Feb 11, 2023, 10:32?PM

National Security Minister Itamar repeated his intentions on Saturday evening to launch a significant operation in eastern Jerusalem to quell terrorism.

“I am determined to launch ‘Operation Defensive Sheild 2’ in Jerusalem. To those officials who are speaking against me: the police have the authority to demolish illegal houses, arrest over 150 suspected terrorists, raid houses, stop the incitement in the mosques, detain those who owe taxes, and more. The security cabinet is important, and I will request additional things there, but governance is crucially important, and I will make sure it stays that way,” Ben-Gvir wrote on social media.

Viktor Orbán Blows Off Blowhard Zelensky in Brussels

By Richard Abelson, GATEWAY PUNDIT   9.2.23

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán blew off Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky as he visited the EU HQ in Brussels to beg for more money, arms and fighter jets. Orbán said that Hungary would not get involved in the Ukraine war “in the interest of the country and its people.”

As EU leaders posed for a photo op in the EU Parliament building, Viktor Orbán conspicuously failed to clap as Zelensky took his place before him.

Our Government’s Ukraine Obsession Endangers America And Her Allies

By Al Bienenfeld, AM THINKER

[…]

A good foreign policy requires convincing other nations, the friendly or neutral ones, to work with us to secure our goals, which usually means a concomitant promise to secure their goals.

What happens, though, when dealing with an adversarial relationship? Must we physically force our will upon the recalcitrant party, or are there other ways?

By Rajan Laad, AM THINKER

The Washington Examiner recently released a two-part report on their investigation of self-proclaimed ‘disinformation’ tracking organizations that are targeting conservative media.

It’s not about democracy

The left isn’t worried about democracy. It doesn’t like democracy. It likes its oligarchy.

(February 10, 2023 / JNS) What’s happening in Israel is not what it seems. The left, in all its component parts, is not fighting against an effort by the government and the Knesset to destroy Israel’s democracy.

We know this for three reasons.

Unifying Theory; Palestine for Iraq

T. Belman. I reposted this, 20 years later, because it is a detailed explanation of the US duplicity which is ever present. Everything the US does outside its borders is to advance its interests, not its reputed values. NEVER BELIEVE THE REASONS THEY GIVE FOR THEIR FOREIGN POLICIES.

Shortly after publishing this I published Perfecting the Unifying Theory

By Ted Belman (written Apr 2003)

We’ve been had.  After Bush’s June speech, we rejoiced.  We were home free.  No such luck.

Bush has made a Faustian bargain.  He has sold America’s soul, Israel, to the devil, Saudi Arabia.  What is that bargain?  I’ll give you Palestine, you give me Iraq.

Lately we have been reading that the US has been planning a regime change in Iraq for over a year now.  To accomplish this they felt they needed the Arabs on board.  To achieve this end, the following incomprehensible actions were taken by the US administration.

Russia’s Foreign Policy in the Middle East

T. Belman. I recently wrote to Amir Avivi informing him that I blamed the US for the war in Ukraine. I did so because he was blaming Russia.

Marom continues by writing that Russia was “motivated by an imperialistic vision” and Putin “is employing an active, assertive and defiant foreign policy. This policy is based on fusing a challenging attitude towards the US and the Western hegemony”.

I don’t believe that Russia is imperialistic, it is nationalistic, but it certainly rejects Western Hegemony. I also don’t see Western Hegemony with its New World Order as a good thing.

DR. Anat Hochberg Marom, IDSF

Over the past decade, particularly in the past year since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Russia’s foreign policy has undergone dramatic change.

IDSF is active on many fronts

Brigadier General (res.) Amir Avivi
Founder and Chairman of IDSF Habithonistim

Over the past year, IDSF has grown exponentially, and our growth is largely due to the generosity of our supporters abroad. What started just three years ago, is now a major movement of 16,000+ people, guiding and shaping Israel’s Israel national security priorities. I’d like to share with you a few highlights of this growth:

    • The IDSF research department, staffed by 15 researchers and a content desk, revealed the truth about the Lebanon gas deal. Their papers on Pay-for-Slay, Iran, and Deadly Stones, have been presented to top military officials, foreign ambassadors, and members of government. Our National Strategic Assessment for Israel and public surveys provide deep analysis about the core issues impacting Israel’s national security. (Click here or an English language summary of the Assessment.)
